The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Man I never knew a link about a competition can make me laugh so much but once again, The Chris Moyles Show manages to prove it. Two idiots who clearly were not listening and 6 or so people who must have been at work or something at that rate made for some entertaining listening and just the team just losing it as time went on got me laughing but thankfully I didn't cough like crazy.

I'm pleased you didn't cough like crazy too Darro.

If I might ask a broader question though, if you (or anyone, obviously) heard that a competition was intended for people who lived in or around the Leeds area, preferably with a working knowledge of the city's nightlife, but you lived in Brighton, would you completely ignore the whole point of the competition and still enter, or would you think "Shame, that's not for me" and let someone who might fill the criteria stand a better chance of winning.

It's because I have a stupid cough at the moment that I've had for coming up to 2 weeks now that I'm glad I didn't cough my lungs up or whatnot laughing at it.

Well, the only way I would enter a competition like that is if I had an easy way of getting to said location via plane or train or whatnot. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother really and wouldn't spend 4 hours driving to it if that is what she is doing.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. They'd sold the competition as being aimed at people who lived in the Leeds area. That said, they had no way of preventing people from outside the area from entering...

On the topic of the fiasco, was anything resolved after 9.15am? I arrived at work and had to switch off.

After the two hundred and fourtieth no-answer, someone from Brighton won.

The kid who'd previously won, despite not being eligble in anyway shape or form, wasn't quite that far south - but still, not in Leeds.

I can't decide whether people really are just idiots and don't understand what they're hearing, or maybe they just don't care and think that rules only apply to other people and they can do what they want.

I know that in the grand scheme of things it could be considered a minor detail, but I really wish that just once, they'd be asked to explain precisely which parts they didn't understand on air.

And then humiliated.

To be fair mate, i was driving when Chris said, 'two songs then our competition'. I then arrived in the car-park, walked to office, got tea, turned PC on, logged in, powered up tinternet..... And by that point I just caught Chris saying text blah-de-blah to etc. I entered. I had no idea it was meant to be aimed at Leeds area residents...!

So, back to your post, it could be those reasons, or something else!! :)

But they did loads of build-up yesterday too, talking about where they should go, how the winner would hopefully take them to their favourite pubs/clubs etc. You'd have had to miss sizeable parts of both yesterday's and today's shows to not realise.

The thing I wondered was, did they establish who actually sent the text, the mother or daughter? Cos did the mother not say the daughter had been asleep up until that point? And if the mother sent it, why was she using her daughter's phone - cos she didn't have one of her own? And more importantly, did she consider herself to be entering on behalf of the daughter or for herself? I could go on...

I'm kinda gutted because I thought the rules were you HAD to be from the surrounding area. Funny radio though for all the wrong reasons.

Did they say they're doing something like this again next week?

They did actually say that the competition was open to anyone, but since the prize was based in Leeds you have to be able to get there by yourself. Given that the prize was based on the Leeds Festival its not too much of a stretch that people from all over the UK would be there for that anyway & might fancy taking part as well.

If the dopey ma had just kept schtum about her daughter no-one would be any the wiser. She could have taken her daughter along
.

Saying all that, it was absolutely hilarious radio. :D

To Leeds festival yeah, but it might have become evident when a 16 yr old rocked up for a night of pub/club action that someone had kinda cheated.

After hearing this competition this morning it was brilliant. The girl's mum should have just gone and then taken her daughter to Leeds festival which wouldn't be age restricted. And I bet that's where the girl most wanted to go anyway.

It was brilliant radio. It's the kind of things that'll be mentioned on here and on the show for years, like King of tickets is. It certainly made up for the dragged out intro to the feature on Monday, which I moaned about in another thread!

Are you seriously trying to say that you heard enough to hear the question, and the very specific detail about how it should be answered, but you not only entirely missed the whole point of the competition, but you didn't know ANYTHING about what you were going to win before you entered?

Kind of ticks box number one really.
