Always wanted to know something about the show? This is the place to 'Ask Aled'!

The fact he says how much he loves the American way of life, I'd say it's a safe bet wouldn't you?

The only safe bet to be made from that is that Chris likes America. I'm not saying you are wrong, he might very well be interested by the idea of working in American broadcasting in some capacity or other, and who knows, perhaps he is thinking about it - but that's the point, who knows? We certainly don't. So no, I don't think its a safe bet at all. Best wait and see eh?

September 2012

I can't decide whether we should be first or last...

Oh surely first? Surely the fanfare belongs to you?

Aled - just listened to last week's podcast... sorry, free download ;) (the one with JLS), and at the end of it you say that 'next week' there's a huge competition where "you could go to Ibiza". Was that the Superstar DJ competition (wasn't really clear whether how they'd been whittled down to those finalists), or was it something else that never came to fruition? I notice a similar thing happened with pre-announcing a cricket competition a few weeks ago, but then it never actually happened?

What, like when they did Big Weekend in Maidstone? And the thing at Essex Uni? And - I can't think of any more. You might have a point.

Essex Uni?! When was that?

Oh, a while back a karaoke thing, or a stand up comedy night, something like that? I didn't go!

Milton Keynes is pushing it for south east, but it certainly counts as close to London and we had a karaoke night.
#446379
Well, true - but it still counts as close to London, so would be OK to use as an example.

;)

lol, although I see where you're going with this, it's actually the opposite. Our peak young listener time is 7:45 - 8:15. In the Summer that peak is more gradual towards the end of the show as they wake up later. That means the end of the show including the Golden Hour is more important that ever to be young :)

Did you really not enjoy the Golden Hour last Friday? I LOVED it. 2004.

Don't get me wrong here, I enjoy the Golden Hour every week - you won't hear me saying it's no good.

I think it's fairly clear (given the recent number one songs) that young people need educating in their musical tastes though....

Hey Aled,
I live in Ontario, Canada and love the show sooo much. For me the show starts at 1:30, and I have to stay up until 5:30 to catch all of the show. Most nights I can only manage to stay up until 4 before I go to sleep. However, if there is a guest on the show I usually try to listen to the whole thing to see what they are promoting. I think that the show is awesome, and 20 times better than all of the radio shows that we have here. I love the variety of music that you play, and that it gives me a chance to hear new music that sadly doesn't ever get any airplay here.

Love the show in general, and especially love the team and listening to all their stories, Keep up the good work <3

I've got a question as well, What is the reason that people outside of the U.K. aren't able to see the webcam footage for things like interviews and such? At the beginning of some interviews Chris will say if you go to the BBC website and click watch (or something like that) then you can see the guests, and will then describe how the guests are waving to the camera, and it often makes me feel left out.

I imagine it has something to do with the TV License. Us Brits have to pay a fee to the government to watch TV, because the BBC is government funded. This also applies to the iPlayer (the BBC's internet On Demand service). So it probably applies to live broadcasts from Radio 1 too. Then again, they managed to make the marathon show coverage available worldwide, which I never really understood...

Comic Relief. They're hardly going to give up the chance of getting money from people living abroad.

Actually we pay a fee to the BBC, because the BBC is publicly funded.

Aled, next Friday the BBC schedule said that Peter Kay was on the show, this seems to be wrong but is he coming in anytime soon?

Also, can you explain why 13 year olds aren't allowed to the Teen Awards? I don't care but it seems a bit unfair!

Can you have words again Aled?

Much love.

Not being funny but if you know there's a chance it's going to spoil it, try not reading the show notes before you listen to it?
