Always wanted to know something about the show? This is the place to 'Ask Aled'!

Aled how does cover shows work on Radio 1? Does Ben Cooper just ask who wants to do it or is it planned with certain presenters in mind? Is Dev primed for a better slot as he seems to get all the cover lately? Also do you think we will see Comedy Dave do a weekend show again? I miss the Chappers and Dave shows :(

Aled, I need to drive from Bath to Lampeter and beyond on the Aberystwyth road.

Would you go M4 to the Coldra, and then head north to join the A40 and head west from there (A40, lots of lay-bys for a quick smoke, and call of nature); or would you do straight along the M4 to Swansea-ish and up and left?

I know this is extremely off topic, but you must have done the trip 1000's of time to know the quickest way.

Thanks

Hi Aled. I'm currently working on a little project to number each episode of The Chris Moyles Show. My first rough count has today's show (Tuesday) as being #1679, but now is the time to do some fine tuning, and that total will change, although not massively. First of all, is this something you've already got track of? Secondly, would you consider "The Chris Moyles Show with Scott Mills" (as officially billed) to be an official CMS worth adding to the total? Or how about "The Chris Moyles Show with Sara/Vernon" and other members the rest of the team? At the moment, my count is based on weekday morning shows where Chris is present and running the show. If you recommend the former, then we're probably getting very near #2000, maybe even a tad over it, if we estimate that Chris will take approx 40 days of per year, spread over just 7/12 years of the show which currently would put another 300-ish shows onto the total.

Please let me know what you think, as I imagine a firm date for your 2000th show would be something you'd want be aware of, and to plan something special to mark it ;) - did you mark show #1000 at all (were you even keeping count at that time?)?

Nah, it's fine for here. The questions in this thread don't have to all be about the show!

It's all in Ben's hands I'm afraid. He doesn't share his plans. If you find anything out let me know! :)

What an amazing subject!

We don't keep count. I would count all of Chris but not Scott. Yes to Sara and Vernon if the team are there. But what about best of's like New Year's Day?

I would'nt count best of shows either. Just the all new content shows (If you know what I mean).
You may have put an idea in Aleds head though Jamie. So us not having all the shows won't stop them figuring it out.

Fortunately, the show reviews section of the forum up until May 2005 (when I began my records) is pretty comprehensive. Failing that, I can refer to the Tedious Link archive, do a general search of the forum for relevant posts, and I have access to a couple of newspaper archives. I wouldn't count best of's either, I'm going for new material. I probably will count Christmas Day shows, and one off weekend shows, unless someone can give me a reason not to. Counting Vernon/Sara shows should be OK, they should be covered in the BBC's running order and/or /programmes entry, which goes back to 2007.

Fortunately, the show reviews section of the forum for 2004 is comprehensive. I've gone through them all up until September. I can check my own records from May 2005. I wouldn't count best of's either. I'm going for new material. Unsure about Christmas day shows - all new material, but is it a breakfast show?

I would count it (only if they describe it on the show itself) as a special show and not a breakfast show. The last Xmas show I can remember I think was broadcast either later in the morning or afternoon.

Thanks Aled, that will certainly bring it quite a bit closer to 2000. Quite excited to finish this off and see where we are. :D

I know you aren't the correct person to ask but you will know the correct people to pass the message onto.

Can they make the Radio 1 Radio Player less crap? Other stations players seem to allow you (on listen again) to scroll to any point and show how far into the show you are scrolling whereas the Radio 1 one blanks the time out as you scroll and will only snap into specific places.

Cheers Aled.

I'm guessing the marathon show only counts as one, despite the fact it covered 3 days! Surely that show should have a little star next to it on the list.

I'd say that would count as three shows. It's not an extended breakfast show, it was publicised as a marathon show. So the three breakfast shows that fell into the marathon would still be three breakfast shows.

Well I was counting them all equally. Chris was driving the desk on all the shows after all. OK, so it wasn't a breakfast show, and all of the team weren't there, but if I'm going by the number of team members in each show, I'm going to go crazy finding that out. My rule is that if Chris is in the studio, in charge, then it counts - it is the Chris Moyles Show after all. And if Aled says the show with Vernon or Sara and the team should be counted, then that's good enough for me.

Hey Aled

I was wondering, how long does it take for a text to get to the studio? Are the messages pulled with every refresh or do they get pushed immediately. I know you've said about tweets taking longer, which I'm guessing is because Twitter's API only allows a certain number of calls in an hour, but is the same for messages from the web app/site, Facebook posts, etc.?

Thanks :D

Aled, is there any chance of cutting down on the corporate stuff? There seems to be loads of air time taken up by the Teen Awards, plus we had the Ibiza DJ comp. I can cope with Big Weekend time as that is huge and Surgery stuff as you present it.

I just feel the show is better without all that (or less of it), Thursday's show (I think), had no guest and little corporate stuff and it was great. I love the show, don't get me wrong but the corporate stuff gets a bit tiresome.

Also, has a decision been made about the 6:30 link to include actual stuff like the sleep app and the wake up calls? I don't mind it but the sleep app took up that link for virtually an entire week. That link is fine when the team discuss what they did yesterday and what they had for dinner etc, it's mundane but that's the appeal of it. I get that you can't do that every day but I've noticed a shift away from random chat or is it just me?

I'm afraid not. I don't think that's exclusive to us though. Every radio show on every radio station will carry station messages from time to time. You may be noticing it more lately because we're doing a lot of Teen Awards stuff - but with more teenagers listening to us than any other radio show in the UK it makes sense it's with us.

As for the 6:30 link, no, no decision. Chris just talks about us and Chris' snoring is part of that as was me waking him up in the morning so we talked about it.
