The song is utter gash and the line - 'we're singing for England (En-ger-land)' still riles me 20 years on.

*Puts away his big pokey stick*

Ah I forgot you're a jock, that explains your dislike for it then :)

Hoots 'mon. Ye' kidnae be mair wrang if you rubbed yirsel in irn-bru then decoratit yer bawbag wi thistles. The song is just pure pish.

I've removed the choice now, need to have a think as to what to put in (no songs about Arsenal though, especially not at the moment )

My original choice was taken, as was my first entry, so here's choice number 3.

Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting

Sorry Mr Zoid but Bas had dibs on that at 09:36am. Don't think anyone has claimed 'Del Amitri - Don't come home too soon' though :)

It was depressing shite that song wasn't it. Like if an episode of Eastenders could be transformed into musical audio form. That would be it ,that song would. Dreary Pish!

Exactly. The guy that wrote has been hounded by Scots because it's so depressing and pessimistic. Don't come home too soon? It basically accepts the fact we're going to be trout, which everyone knows but you still want your official song to stir some sort of optimism!

Or at best not make you lurch into a coma.

Whit a bell-end he was. Big stupid sidey's as well.

Bad enough he shamed us with that pile o'wank he stoats about those big mutton chops stuck to his face. Now that's unforgivable.

Yudster wrote:This is a song that has almost been ruined by sport, but when Bryn Terfel recorded it in a faithful fashion the dreadful Gerry and the Pacemakers version pales into the insignificance it truly deserves, and its just a beautiful song again.

Bryn Terfel singing You'll Never Walk Alone.

I may be biased in leaning towards the Gerry and the Pacemakers version as a Liverpool fan, but that version really is horrible.

As in the Henry Kelly TV show or the Shed Seven song? (I can't see the vid.)

Unfortunately its the Henry Kelly thing.

Ah balls, forgot about the Shed Seven song. Think i'll do a edit of my post.

I think it depends on what your experience of the song is. For me, its a brilliant piece of Rogers and Hammerstein musical theatre, but realistically most people have never even heard of Carousel. Hence why for me, Gerry and the Pacemakers' version is an abomination and the bastardisation of it for the football terraces is worse. However, if you've grown up only really knowing the G&P version and with your experience of the song confined to football alone, then its fair enough that you would have no time for something a bit closer to the original intent of the writers!

Right does this one count:

Mark Knopfler - Going Home (Theme of the Local Hero)

This is one of the tracks Newcastle United play before they come out on the pitch, does that count or do I have to pick another?

I actually quite like World In Motion. Especially the rap.

And Three Lions actually.

I'd better hide before the other Scots here try and throw me out of the country now.

I'm sure I heard a version of it where it was changed to "Don't leave home again" in some kind of bizarre effort to reverse the jinx of the song - after all, we haven't qualified for anything since we did "come home too soon".
