I only like radio 1, 2 & 4, with BBC Cornwall good for a laugh.

Heavy Metal and Drum and base make me turn off Radio one. If they want less old * play lots of that..... oh no they tried that before and actually no * likes that sort of stuff unless they are about to commit suicide or stoned, so pretty much Bradford, Llaneflli and Sheffield, but that's it.

I'd actually listen to Radio 1 more if it starting playing metal.

I don't listen to Fearne Cotton but heard ion Moyles' show yesterday that she was having Daniel P. Carter (the Rock Show on Monday night/Tuesday morning). This is at least the third time that I have heard he is going to be on her show. I wonder if he was sick or on vacation one week if A. he would let her sub for him and B. if she would work such a late shift, if even for two hours. It is metal and I think she likes a lot of metal plus other hard rock.

I think as someone else said previously, listening to the radio isn't something that young folk do anymore with so many other things to entertain them on the move. I think a lot of people, especially my age, listen to the radio in the car, which I'd guess is the primary audience. I listen to Radio 1 by convention, it's what I've always listened to and while it still entertains me I'm not going to switch. Which I guess is a positive thing for radio 1 really.

Moyles has always been more about the talk than the music. And for a man who's been on the station for 14 years, is it any wonder that his average listener gets older each year? Once Moyles finished at Radio 1, that will be the end for me on Radio 1, and I dare say there will be thousands more who feel the same.

I listened to a Chris Evans Show podcast a couple of weeks ago and I didn't find it funny. Now that I write this I may have figured out why, because I am immature or as it is called when you get older and you start doing childish things again, a rejuvenile. However since I've never stopped laughing at bodily functions, I can't use the rejuvenile thing as an excuse. Chris is in the same boat as me and countless others. Hopefully when it is time for him to leave Radio 1, he will get a radio show somewhere else. Hopefully it will be one where the show can be listened to again over the internet.

I like Chris Evans but his Breakfast Show is a massive disappointment, knowing what he IS capable of. Its rigid, structured, formulaic and predictable - all the things I never expect Evans to be. I reckon he views it simply as an incredibly easy gig - certainly he doesn't have to exert himself to do what little he does with it. Having said that, its miles better than listening to Mills covering Moyles in the mornings.

On the other hand, there are some great shows on R2 - Simon Mayo and Steve Wright in the week, and at the weekend Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady, they are both brilliant. There are some other good ones too.

I really hope I never reach the stage where I enjoy Radio 2. Moyles said recently that he doesn't ever think that Radio 2 will be for him, and I am in the same boat.

On the rare occasions I tune in to Radio 2 all I hear is ancient music and rubbish debates. I heard a bit of Jeremy Vine a few weeks ago and he had a phone in on whether rag and bone men were too noisy and then had a discussion on the demise of the Blue Peter annual. I hope that I never find that sort of stuff entertaining.

I am nearly 35 so well outside the R1 demographic, but what the station does suits me for daytime listening even though it has talented DJs (Sara Cox and Nick Grimshaw) who are underused or shoved onto late evenings, but I can tolerate Fearne, Greg and Scott and I pretty much always like the playlist. I always want to be in touch with modern music and there is no way I can do that on Radio 2.

I think once the show ends I don't think I'll continue to listen to any radio anymore at all. Scott's show is alright but not worth sticking around for.

I wonder how many listeners that are adults now used to listen when they were kids and just continued to do so as they got older. Also it's mainly adults that are doing the commuting and driving which is when people tend to listen to the radio anyway because it's just there in the car.

I've been listening to Moyles since 1999 & to be honest the only reason I listened to Radio 1 was because of him (and Mark & Lard, although admittedly I didn't listen to them as often as I would have liked to.) The only other DJ I listen to is Jon Holmes on 6Music, although I do switch onto 6Music every so often as they do play a good mixture of recent & 70's, 80's & 90's music.

Oh I will but it won't be Radio 1, 6Music thankfully is a hell of a lot better music wise than Radio 1, Absolute isn't too bad either, depending on the DJ (Geoff Lloyd is good on there) Capital however is so far removed from what I remember as a kid in the 90's that's it's not the same station at all to me these days unfortunately.

I'm 27 and I Hate (with a capital H) the vast majority of the music on radio 1's playlist. I love the familiar feeling of the chat/features of Chris and the team and spend a lot of time travelling so I will listen to edits from here downloaded to my phone (thanks ianpwilliams et al ) and no matter what I'm doing, if I'm a bit stressed or anxious or bored or annoyed I can flick a switch and it's like having some good mates in your earphones.

I listen to radio 2 very rarely (the odd live gig or documentary), radio 4 for comedy, radio 5 live a fair bit and sometimes to 6 music but don't really feel the BBC is catering for me on any particular station, just here and there across the network.

No, not at all. I listen every day but just don't enjoy it at all as I don't have any idea what's going on. The humour is just far too complicated for me as a mere 18 year old University student.

Breakfast show is the only show I listen to on Radio 1 because I am not a big fan of the R1 playlist and rather listen to 80s music and rock/metal etc than most of the stuff that is played on that station nowadays. I do not like dubstep and drum & bass that is associated with artists like Nero and that. There are some songs they play from time to time I do like but they usually play songs where I have to take my earphones off and wait until it's finished. So R1 will be done and dusted for me once Moyles leaves.

Only other shows I listen to regularly are Late Night With Colin Murray/Eamon Friel on Friday & Saturday nights respectively on Radio Ulster and enjoy them since they put on music that I find easy to listen to and it is not just stupid noise, which I get with stuff from R1 and other places. I am 26 and that kind of music just isn't for me.

i agree totaly! i am well over the average age i'm afraid.

I'm afraid I am over the target age as well. As I don't like the music on R1 I switch over when the CM show is finished, sometimes to R4 or more usually to R2 - basically for want of anything better. The Jeremy Vine show is ok usually, as is the Steve Wright Show. Once in a while Wright shows signs of how good he was in the early 90s with his afternoon show on R1 but overall it's a bit disappointing.

The R2 "playlist" (is there one?) is not that great - hit and miss really. They play a good bit of kack with the odd good track thrown in. I just had a quick look at the R1 top 40 singles page and was surprised to find I knew almost all the artists and had heard the vast majority of the songs before. Presumably I have picked them up listening to Moyles. So not quite out of the modern music scene yet.

So no one show caters for me really. I like the talk on R1 in the mornings and for music on Friday nights through iplayer, some talk on R2 and R4 for news/analysis/documentaries etc.

I would venture to say you've not listened at the right times. It's a right old mix Radio 2, which means some is very good and some is just awful. As has been mentioned, Simon Mayo has the best show on the radio in the afternoons by a mile in my opinion - I would go so far as to say the second best show on the radio full stop.

I think Danny Baker's on at the same time as Simon Mayo - he's a little more... 'eclectic' in terms of music, but he has a predilection toward the verbose that you might appreciate.

Mayo and Kermode are a good combination on Fridays - even though I don't really have a huge interest in the films they talk about...
