Of course, good call. She would be perfect of local London tin pot crap pop/dance radio, a match made in commercial heaven, I'm all for it! :D

It's a shame that Capital FM is now considered a "local tin pot" station as Capital FM was once considered a big name in the radio industry & had some of the biggest names in Radio, the DJ's used to flitter between them & Radio 1 and for years in London Radio 1 hardly beat Capital to the number 1 Breakfast show, it's rather sad that this once giant & unique station has become so boringly generic like all the other commercial radio station.

In fairness a gig on Capital would still be considered one of the best jobs in the industry I would have thought. I know Moyles takes the Mickey of it being just another local station, but when your region has a 8 million population it puts it into perspective. The way I picture it is that its double the population of my beloved Ireland! :D

I'm sure the XFM->Capital route will still prove to be a breeding ground for new R1 DJ's in the future.

The Capital Brand is available nationwide now, and all it's sister stations will merge into one come January, the first commercial station to do so I believe. (so far only their chart show is broadcast nationwide, every other capital show is unique to it local area)

The Capital gig is therefor a very big deal.

That's what drives me nuts about the commercial sector and creative industries they've got all that wonga from advertising, yet the output is pure shite. They can pay the likes of Vaughan a million a year when theres Moyles doing a great job for the good old license fee.

The ultimate truth is that (what with the papers in hot water right now) it just seems that they have to go above and beyond to compete with the BBC which offers quality, as opposed to a culture of fear and boring adverts. I'd rather they just packed it in once and for all, especially now. But the fevered egos of Dacre and Murdoch would not allow it.

Thinking again as to who would do the most damage to Moyles ratings on Capital breakfast, would Greg James be a shout for this. Can't see him leaving R1 as in my opinion he is probably next R1 breakfast host. Trying to think of other names who have the potential to hit Moyles listenership , any thoughts??

Incorrect, the only shows that are currently local are breakfast everyday and drivetime on weekdays

No I disagree strongly with the mention of his name, maybe at first he could've shook things up a bit, being the cheeky prankster, but I reckon he'll end up being a telly face cos the naughty schoolkid act just doesn't come across on the air.

Capital is part of the Global Radio Group which also owns Heart. Almost certainly Richard Park's long-term aim is to ditch the local heritage and run one/two quasi-national network. 7hours weekdays and 4hours weekends of "local" is the lip-service to Ofcom that is currently necessary...

On a "bigger-picture" note though, thanks to Global Radio - "local radio" in this country only properly exists now on the BBC (putting DQF-arguments aside). So where does commercial radio look to, for new names? Inevitably, with R1 on a ratings-high and only a handful of decent ex-ILR shows left... I can't blame Crapital for looking to R1 for a new signing... It's a sad indictment on the state of the industry!

Actually, there's a new startup in Milton Keynes called MKFM - an old mate of mine does a show on it. It's internet only at the moment (which contradicts the name slightly), but launching on FM next week I believe - I hope it does well and stays true to its roots, because we've never had a truly local station - even when Heart was Horizon, there was only really a local breakfast show and no championing of local bands.

Don't forget that the BBC plucked him from uni and gave him a hell of an opportunity - which has led to him being broadcast to many people around the UK. The BBC has a way of retaining talent with brand integrity, that is pretty much unrivaled.

Russell Brand's short stint on there springs to my mind!

Wasn't his stint on talkSPORT actually just 'highlights' of a live show he did, clipped and repeated?

I listened to one of them. It was dreadful.

Cotten isnt good, not by a long stretch but you really hate her as a radio presenter dont you?

No, not really. I dont think she is good at her job, but I certainly dont hate her as a presenter at all. I think I am actually one of the more charitable people to her on here.

Whenever I have read interviews with her and when I see her on Celebrity Juice, I like her quite a lot. I think she deserves great credit for her appearnces on Celeb Juice. She has the shit ripped out of her on that show and she takes it admirably.

But as a radio presenter she isnt very good at all. But that is pretty much fact isnt it.

Do you think she's aware of the fact that the shit is being ripped out of her on Celebrity Juice? I haven't watched the show myself, but it's a pretty slim reason to credit someone as a TV host.

Her agent's rolodex would presumably have...

Name: Cotton, Fearne
Age: 31
Skills: Having the shit ripped out of her

Pretty much, though I seem to remember that his earlier shows on there seemed to feature more material being recoded solely for the radio show, but by the end it was just highlights being repeated. It was certainly an odd set up...

Really? Noel Gallagher is usually about as entertaining as dengue fever.

Yeah, that was definitely the reason - in terms of entertainment value, where Mr Brand would be a 1, Mr Gallagher would be a 100.

THAT is how much more entertaining he is.
