So, it's that season again, I was wondering what everyone else thought of the usual work Christmas party! Do you like them? Hate them? Have any memorable stories about them? :D

Personally I can't stand the damn things, as everyone at my work drinks their own body weight in booze and causes trouble. That's why I usually don't go, or if I do go, I eat the free meal then leave and go somewhere better :D

Phew, thought there'd be someone's backside on the phtocopier from last year in here then.

(always seems like a good idea at the time)

Dunno what they do here to celebrate x-mas at this new place, suppose I should look into that, running outa time to get meself a new frock....

I quite like 'em. Yeah, few people always go OTT, but most are restrained and its nice to see some of these people out of work. The golden rule is to not do something stupid which will haunt you back in the office.

Our Christmas do here is always the week before Christmas, and I am always on annual leave for that week so I don't do them.

The Box Office are going to a lovely Italian restaurant that have an excellent vegan selection, so I'm very pleased about that, and then drinking in as yet unspecified locations. I have purchased a dress, but I still need to get some new false eyelashes and stockings. I'm not a big drinker, but I might push the boat out and have a couple :)

Once when I worked for a well known DIY store, someone brought a video camera to the Christmas party (why?) When the resulting tape was brought in to the staff room a few days later, the highlight appeared to be lengthy footage of me snogging the face off some boy on the dancefloor. Classy.

We had one on Friday, was very good. Black tie event. Free bar, free food... Most people were rat-arsed, and it was nice to see everyone let their hair down and relax. For once I didn't wake up thinking about who I need to apologies to on Monday...

Got another one next Friday in Brighton which I am looking forward to.

Just done ours on Saturday.
2 Pre-Match Pints - Newcastle vs Chelsea - Hotel - 2 Pints - TGI Fridays - 2 Pints - Comedy Club - 4 Pints - Nearby Pub - 2 Pints (and liberated a beautiful Peroni Azzuro glass) - Hotel - 3 Pints = Me, next morning, naked bar a sock on my left foot, spread-eagled on the top of the covers, feeling like a jobby that had been kicked up and down a street lined with broken glass.

Good Times.

Oh and also...

It is beautiful isn't it.

Mine is tonight (just a few drinks with the team). Am going to concentrate on not drinking a lot, as I have tended to at other (less important) work events.

Well I've only been there about 2 months and the students who I work with aren't going so it will be a bit awkward just being forced to socialise with the supervisors. And I'm sure I can find better things to be doing on a Friday night than going out for a meal with work.

EDIT: I only just got that joke... :P

Hmmmm, those two things don't necessarily go hand in hand...!

But yes Benji, agreed, i'm sure your student lifestyle will facilitate a better Friday night than hangin' with fellow Sainsburiers (?).

We've got two this year, the first one is just our department this Friday at a sit down meal, then off to pubs near by & then next Friday its one for the whole office where we get a free buffett & free drinks at a rugby club hall.

Ours are normally good, at least one person gets rat arsed every year, guess who did last year for the first time

My manager cancelled our Christmas party because we disagreed with his idea of where to go. To make things even funnier he has been growing a really patchy beard for the last month so he really does look like the Grinch.

I generally don't go because I wouldn't be caught socialising with the people I work with for a big gold clock.

However, there's a high potential for violence and recrimination this year, so feel a duty to be in.

We used to have an all paid for party, but a couple of years back when the recession bit and there was a heavy cull of staff, the board took the highly sensible view that to have a Christmas party would be in very bad taste, particularly when the cost of them can be the equivalent of a person's annual salary.
