I don't like the idea of a tattoo oozing anything really...

They don't ooze literally, thank goodness. That old one was definitely oozing something metaphorically, though. Christ knows what I was thinking when I had it done. Well, I was 21 and probably drunk. I don't think the place I got it done would have really cared if I was.

Been there, done that. I have eight of them and had them done in my early 20s. I hate five of them and want them covered up.

Wouldn't have spotted that yours was a cover up.

I have four others by the same crappy artist, but only one of them really bugs me cos its a bit wonky. They are all on my arms so I plan to just use a background of flowers to join them all together eventually, then the fact that they're not very well done won't be so obvious.

I like that you, as a bird, are currently mocking boboff for getting that wrong. It's almost poetic.

It does hurt. But it depends on the placement and your own pain threshold, as well as the size of the tattoo and the amount of solid colour vs shading - shading is done with a single needle, so that hurts more. This was the 20th time I've sat so I do know what to expect, but nevertheless, after 2hrs of being tattooed, the great majority of people will start to get fed up. Most tattooists will only tattoo people for a max of 3hrs at a time, cos the pain just gets too much - not to mention the tattooist himself gets arm and back ache.

2hrs! The missus has 12 or 13 tattoo's and has never sat for more than an hour at a time. My wife = a big jessie.

Oh, this one was more like 2 and a half in total, although that included two short breaks to stretch legs (for me) and smoke (for him).

Jesus. As he having a tattoo wasn't painful enough, you were attaching those torture device things you had to your legs to stretch them out as well. You is one tough son of a gun nic.

Tattoos hurt, but the degree of pain depends where you have them done. The ones on my upper arm didn't really hurt too much, but the ones on my chest were excruciating at first. When I had my first chest tattoo done I remember clenching my fist and thinking I wouldnt be able to get through it, but I did and after a few minutes I just tolerated it.

I would describe them all as being painful, but manageable to varying degrees..

Nic - sorry, meant if not he in the above post. Ducking predictive text.
Ben - why so sad, never said i was leaving for good. You must not have been able to read it through tear filled eyes.
Travis - chest tattoos. Fair play big fella, just be careful with the fist making. I believe it to be frowned upon on a first date.

Not this time. I had my left leg lengthened by two inches in my early 20s though. And the torture device you refer to is called an Ilizarov frame. Yep, I'm rock hard.
