Went for the first one posted, so this round will be instrumentals. To qualify, songs must have no singing but short lengths of speech/voiceover (a few words) are acceptable.

  • To play, post a song from the theme (or year) in this thread with a youtube link if possible. Please be very nice to me and also post the title in the following format: Song Artist - Song Title (this saves me time when making the poll)
  • Do not post a song that has already been chosen, and please try not to change your answer, though if you really want to, you can. Also, only one entry each.
  • 3-5 days after the thread was originally posted, a poll will go up with all the entries (that qualify for the category).
  • For the next 3 days the forum can vote on their favourite option, with one vote each. Voting for your own choice is frowned upon but not disallowed.
  • When the poll closes, the winner will be invited to choose the next category. In the event of a tie the first entrant (who was joint first) to get back to me will be allowed to choose. If the winner does not pick a choice within 4 or 5 days, the runner-up will be asked choose.

Argh, what a BRILLIANT choice of theme! I agonised over this one, so many good ones to choose from...in the end I had to go for the ending song for my favourite TV show of all time, Spaced. This song always evokes a range of emotions in me, it always makes me smile, always cheers me up, but also makes me eeeeever so slightly sad, as the song signalled the end of Spaced.

My choice is...Lemon Jelly - The Staunton Lick

Oh my god...I've got some * jaffa cakes in my coat pocket!

The Shadows FBI

It had to be a shadows one, check out those dance moves!

I like Rhapsody in Blue as well, and the first track from War of the Worlds, but it has to be the Shadows.

*edit - changed my mind* I'm gonna go for the Allman Brothers - Jessica (aka the Top Gear theme). Will look for a youtube link when I'm at home.

My choice is the Godfather Theme as performed by Slash

I've had the pleasure of hearing him play this live and I admit I had a tear in my eye.

Also - it's Axl's 50th Birthday today!

I will probably think of loads of others that I will wish I had chosen, but the first one that popped into my head is one I do love, Sandstorm by Darude.

This is more like a decent subject!!! :D

I don't expect anyone to vote for it , but i haven't heard it in ages & it was the second thing that spring into my head.
Alex Lifeson is the dogs ballix & no mistake.
God i wish i had long hair again. It would be flying all over the fucking place!

Rush - La Villa Strangiato

This was my first thought,

Though its reminds too much of where i live now :( . And it also makes me want to attack Gettysburg for some reason.

So i'll stick with Rush

I think you may have won there. I didn't realise that the same person did that as my choice. John Williams is a talented man.

JW is effing brilliant - a real genuine legend in his own lifetime. The number of popular themes we all know and love which he wrote is oodles*.

Star Wars
Jaws
Superman
Indianna Jones
ET
Jurassic Park
Harry Twotter.

the list goes on...

* never get to use that word enough.

We could to another one for movie scores. Because this is absolutely brilliant too. Hans Zimmer is as good as John Williams.

Rob D(ougan) - Clubbed to Death

I'm going with this one. Somehow this makes me remember some bad events from the past, but still a tune nonetheless!

Nicola_Red wrote:*edit - changed my mind* I'm gonna go for the Allman Brothers - Jessica (aka the Top Gear theme). Will look for a youtube link when I'm at home.

damn, got beaten to it I guess. I was going to change my mind about it too :P Ah well, mine's still a personal close 2nd to Jessica.

Brilliant GHG this round... so many to pick. Love the Star Trek instrumentals (one used in First Contact), Inception and Dark Knight music as well.

But my pick is Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla (BBC's Blue Planet i think was the show that used it)

Bonanzoid wrote:Absolutely sublime song. But the real version has singing (albeit in icelandic) so I don't count it!

Fair point... so many to pick from, i've just remembered this from playing Elite.

New pick is: Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Was gonna pick the Gladiator film theme, but just realised there are some vocals :(

Can I just make a point - there are some great pieces of music in here but I thought the point of the GHG was that the track had to have been a chart hit? The theme (ie the year, or the subject whatever) is the variable, but surely the whole point is that we are looking at tracks which have been in the charts?

If that's NOT the case, then I want to change my choice to Jaqueline DuPre playing the first movement of the Elgar Cello Concerto.
