Just been announced that starting on monday april 2 Greg James will be the n ew presenter of the radio one drivetime show, with Scott demoted to the 1-4 slot. Gemma Carney takes over from Edith Bowman on weekend breakfast, edith takes over from Nihal on the tuesday night review show. .Also new guy Danny Howard is taking over the saturday 4-7 slot and Jameela Jamil also joins Radio One ,taking over the sunday 7-9pm slot. No word on whats happening to Tom Deacon though.People will inevitably speculate that this is confirmation that Greg is being lined up to take over the breakfast show from moyles in 2014.I'm going to miss Scott from drivetime, but congrats to Greg! http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/radi ... 01.article

Scott moves to gregs slot.Looks like Tom Deacons getting the axe though-Jameela Jamil is taking over his sunday s lot and theres no word on whats happening to Tom!

Incidentally Gemma Carney taking over weekend breakfast means that Sarah Jane Crawford is taking over her weekday 1-4 slot on Radio One Extra, and former Big Brother housemate Adele Roberts is the new host of the weekend 1-4 slot on 1 extra!

It's not a shock that Scott is leaving drive time but to me it is a shock that he is not leaving altogether. I thought Scott would leave radio 1 when his drive time stint was over.

Aled has always said that since day 1 of the Chris Moyles Breakfast show that Scott was the replacement

That's true, but is that in Chris' or Scott's? Scott's I'd imagine - and if he's being swapped around could that be because his contract is up and therefore they'll be changing that part of it too?

I could see him going to a commercial station like Capital at some point.

I really think this is unfair on Scott. His show is brilliant at drivetime and really won't work in the 1 - 4 slot. This is effectively a demotion for him. And Greg was always going to get breakfast anyway so they may as well have just kept it the same. I wouldn't blame Scott now if he buggered off to Capital. He might even be able to get the breakfast gig there.

I won't hear it anyway, as I listen to Radio 2 at drivetime, but Greg is an acceptable alternative when Simon Mayo is on holiday, whereas Scott is definitely not.

I'm surprised, given that there's a shake up that Adam Catterall hasn't had some sort of a promotion from Early Breakfast stand in (I think that's all he does) - even to Early Breakfast permanent host. He's far better than most of the main presenters, including Mills and I would say Greg.

There's a big gap after Yawn left - and he would be very popular in my opinion. Poor management from Cooper imo.

Should have given Greg the Friday slot for a year (Mills does the Wonder years 4-5, Newsbeat special 5-6 and floor fillers from 6-7 on a Friday) and seen what the reaction was like. Now he'll leave Scott feeling as though he's second best to both Greg and Chris, which will surely have an effect on his enthusiasm and the quality of the show.

Me too. Can't stand him. I think he'd fit in far better at a commercial station. It doesn't affect me either though to be fair, I listen to music on the way home rather than the radio.

Firstly the big winner is Danny Howard, just realised from the press release that he was the winner of the Ibiza competition last Summer. Fantastic to see new talent reach Radio1 that way.

Big congrats to Greg, although its never nice for anyone to be moved to a less sought after timeslot, since the days of Chappers, the banter and features with Scott just feel over scripted and stick to the same well trodden paths. All the 'love you bye' and PR4L stuff just irritates me. Both would be fine as temporay features but now just feel unimaginative.

I know Greg has been accused in the past of not being unique enough, but his personality is probably the closest match to Moyles in my opinion. Best guy for the drivetime slot without doubt. Still intrigued to know how Greg would fare with a larger on-air team around him, would be the real test for whether he would fit well in breakfast given that it's this format that most of the competition go for at that time of day.

Not surprised that Greg got drive time (he's obviously the anointed one) little surprised it was a swap with Scott who I thought would get bumped to a weekend slot (or leave completely). I've never 'got' Scott and don't listen anymore when he covers for Chris, Greg is better but tends towards being a blander version of Chris.

Will give him a listen when he starts but most likely stick with my own music or PM on Radio 4 long term.

Radio 1 would be mad to offer Mills a new contract, given the talent they have pushing through now. He is AWFUL. I'm surprised its taken this long for Greg to get the Drivetime show to be honest. I think he is good and also intelligent enough to develop in the right way - which is why he has, over the years, become a LOT less like Scott Mills (given that when he was taken on in the beginning everyone said how similar his style was to Mills) and made a distinctive sound and style of his own.

But Mills - he is dreadful. Truly dreadful.

i only listen to the scott mills daily. So hopefully that continues.
And msn are reporting on the story and have said scott does have a new 3 year contract. Maybe if they keep the team and chris becomes a proper side kick. Ben cooper is maybe thinking scott, chris and becky can become the new mark and lard. Its just me putting somethin out their.

I have done a complete about-turn on Mills and James. I used to think that Greg showed real potential and was the heir apparent to Moyles, but he just hasn't developed as I hoped he would. He has zero on-air personality and his show is just dull.

Greg has so little charisma he finds it necessary to put on stupid, ridiculous voices during just about every link to try to inject some humour into them, and it doesn't work. He comes across as a bore with nothing to say.

Scott Mills is someone who I have warmed to. I understand all of the criticisms of him and wouldn't particularly argue with any of them, but at least he has a show with features and it feels as if his show is vibrant with stuff going on. I cant compare his show to how it used to be as I used to give him such short shrift, but I don't get bored listening to him nowadays.

Barring something unexpected this is obviously the last move Greg makes before replacing Moyles on breakfast. This is about giving him a bigger job to see how he adapts and also to raise his profile before Chris' contract ends in 2014.
