The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Basically the question is, have you found yourself in a situation in real life where you've had to defend the Chris Moyles show against uninformed members of the public or have you just decided to remain quiet either out of embarrassment or because you secretly agreed or for whatever reason?

Most of the people I know either like him but think he's on too early (That's when I mention the podcast to em) or they just ain't bothered by him. I've yet to meet somebody who actually hates him.

I tend to use an argument that focuses on entertaining the majority of their target audience (13-30 year olds?) - and in doing so they must be able to appeal to the lowest common denominator while maintaining a certain level of broadcasting standard. The biggest form of appeal is usually humour, celebrities and popular music.

It doesn't make people like the show, but it usually makes them more tolerant of it. People can dislike what they want, but they should at least be able to respect it for being fit for purpose.

I think a majority of Moyles haters would hate any Radio 1 breakfast show, due to the nature of what it needs to be.

I have given up. People at work know I am a Moyles devotee and do a lot of work for this site, and I know some of them think he's an idiot (or worse) but are holding back their true feelings out of politeness, which is fine with me. One girl I used to work with said "I can't believe you're a Chris Moyles fan. It just doesn't seem like you." She didn't seem sure exactly why that was, though...

Seeing as I live in Switzerland no one knows who Chris Moyles is (nor do they know anyone else from Radio 1 or Radio 1 for that matter).

I have one friend who lived in the UK and knows Chris Moyles but she hates him because she believes he is homophobic. I am not allowed to mention anything from the CMS and sees it as a "good sign" of our friendship that we aren't talking about it (I don't get her logic either). Funny enough she reads the online Daily Mail daily and has no problems with their blatant homophobia.

I think I would find such a friendship hard to maintain, and I would quickly find myself wondering if it was worth the effort. Not because she doesn't like Moyles, but because of the general hypocrisy.

Of the few people at work I have spoken to about him, they all can't stand him. In fact one of my colleagues saw me today with my earphones in and, as he knows I am a fan of Moyles, asked me if I was listening to the "loudmouthed yob".

I just said yes. I couldnt be bothered trying to convert someone who has already made their mind up.

I'm guessing her opinion is based on what she has read? It would be easier to understand how he meant what he says' about anything if you hear him. If I only read half the stuff that gets in the paper about stuff he said then I'd probably be put off him aswell but I listen and understand his style enough to let it fly or take it as intended. And it is always intended as entertaing amousment. I've yet to meet a homophobe who gets on soo well with a member of the gay work partner as Chris does with Aled.

And Andi Peters is pretty much his best mate.

Seriously? You may as well be asking whether Aled is gay or not. Even as a child watching him in the Broom Cupboard it was obvious that Andi with an i (there's a clue for a start) wasn't into lady gardens.

But David Walliams is being deliberately camp for comedy effect. Andi Peters is just camp even though he isn't trying to be. It seems completely different to me. Maybe I've been working in theatre too long...

I'll say one last thing about this then never respond to it again (Maybe :) ).
Because his parents spelt his name with an I and not a Y, he is gay. Think about it love.

I have thought about it love. The name comment in my post was (quite obviously I thought) a throwaway one, I was not basing my entire judgement on whether he is gay or straight on the spelling of his name. I just find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly hears him on the show could still be under the impression that Andi could possibly be straight. On many occasions I don't think Chris could have spelled it out more clearly if he'd asked Andi how his boyfriend was.

I don't. Nobody sits around a radio going 'haahahahahha brilliant', not in this day and age anyway. Moyles's job is to cheer up those who hate mornings or traffic jams or both. From what Ben says it seems he's having trouble converting people of that age, everyone just suits themselves.

From what I have seen, envy plays a big part in making people not like him, he seems to have it good, a mound of gold to sit proudly on top of, so they can't relate or listen. But generally people refuse to make time for him, but I don't, and still count it as a blessed experience to disappear off to Moylesland, cos the humour suits me perfectly.

I see it more as a secret listenership who all enjoy it but don't want to share their show.

For example when he got SayNoToHardButter trending - only the listeners in on the joke.

A part of me does wish I could talk about the show to more people though, but it just gives me a boost when I listen and that's all that matters.

But if that were the case, why would people like any national DJ? After all, it's evident that they're all doing pretty well for themselves.

Well i am happy to wear my badge with pride. I have converted a few haters to like chris but not enough to make them listen yet. Give me time.
