Interesting report

Deal Or No Deal and other TV quiz shows may face the axe as a result of a Gambling Commission investigation because no skill is needed to win, according to paper reports today. The Commission has warned the producers of DOND and Red or Black ? that they are under threat. It is illegal to run non-skill games for cash without a gambling licence. The shows have been told they must introduce an element of skill.ITV have shelved production of a new series of Play Your Cards Right until the matter is resolved.

And good old fashioned shite.
I see clips every now-and-then and they are always in fancy dress. Is this the last, desperate ideas of a show long past it's time?

Whenever I have watched Deal or No Deal, its over in about five or ten minutes - and there's still a whole show left to do. Once there's no chance of the person winning anything significant - which usually happens pretty quickly - where's the interest? I have none.

Watching someone lose when you know minutes in that they are GOING to lose is not entertaining.

Has anyone noticed the colour of Edmonds' beard & hair? Something between Golden Retriever & oak.
My ma has this crap on all the time in her house, on what seems like a loop along with Judge Judy & M*A*S*H, & i can barely suppress a wave of nausea every time i see his fist magnet of a face.
The man is practically a serial killer , for f*cks sake!

I think that at it's core, the game is very interesting - and is essentially a combination of probability, greed, ambition and tension.

However the way it's done is tedious.

If they made it into an hour long show, with DOND as the final round (with the main show being a series of games which determines how many of the values (boxes) you get in your final game. eg. complete all the rounds and get all the values, complete half the rounds and get half the values, then it would make more interesting watching.

The contestants come over like they are in some kind of cult lead by Edmonds. They are all happy and smiley for the person playing whilst they are locked in a dingey hotel for weeks on end. Some of the people have to wait about a month before even playing.

I like Deal or No Deal but I can't see this investigation getting far. They've already paused recordings for several weeks, but that might be due to a different issue. I disagree that it's all just luck of opening boxes as there is a level of mind games, bargaining etc. that each player brings into their own unique game. At a glance, all the games are the same but when you connect with the player, that's what makes it interesting viewing. It's especially good when someone you don't like is greedy and loses all the money they wanted for their kids to go to Disney. Mwahaha.

And really, does Vernon have to ruin my entire childhood?

Ooh, something related to what I work with.

Unless people pay to register with these shows via something like a phone line then I think they're ok, if there's no stake then there's no bet. Essentially Deal or no Deal is a game of chance in that case. IF you do pay £1.60 a minute on a phone line to register then, yes, it's gambling essentially. It's a similar reason to why shows like This Morning changed their phone ins a while back so you had to answer a question rather than just ringing in so there was an element of skill involved in the competition.

Awww, for a second there I thought you meant Paul Zenon was coming back to TV. :D

He's long overdue for a new show! Brilliant magician.

Edit: Just found this great video if him ripping the piss out of some stupid 'psychic' on This Morning...
