It would be possible to do, of course - PHP is just a web scripting language, with which you can do all MANNER of things.

However - I wouldn't want to hide avatars, as it makes it easier to at a glance determine who has authored a post. I also wouldn't want to be looking at the sorts of pictures that have been described here (as I never saw it), as I view the forum at times when it would be inappropriate (at work, with little'un, etc.)

In short - I agree with Boboff (going purely by what has been described).

Thinking about it, if the said picture was in the "gif" thread I wouldn't find it offensive, it's not that I am a prude at all, and i have enjoyed adult material on the internet, in printed form and also on an entertainment medium that used to be called "video", and it was not really that bad, it was more Daily Sport "Annimated" what was upsetting was that every thread had on each page view an annimated wank going on, if Tim only posted at the same pace as Zenon, it wouldn't have been an issue either. Bob did have a point. Although forum rule state 18+, that doesn't stop 'background viewing', and the avtar I had at the time I wouldn't have wanted presenting to my daughter - and it did jump out of the screen somewhat.

So, fair complaint, handled in my second choice of methods - hence the wussy grass observation linked to my apology.
