The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I actually find Carrie really irritating now. I don't think I did at the time, but when I listen back to old shows now I just get annoyed when I hear her voice.

I like Tina but she has become more involved in the show recently and it is a bit too much for me. She just tends to mimic Dom and the quips he makes (much as Carrie did) and doesn't add anything to the show other than an extra, unnecessary voice.

The funny members of the show are Chris, Dave and Dom and the focus should be on them.

With only one female voice on the team (and Aled), I feel that there's not enough of a balance as it is - and it leads to the show shifting to lad like banter at times, which is good occasionally but would be tedious in the long term.

When Rachel, Aled and Carrie were on at the same time it was better as there was more balance about everyday issues - I think it would be the same if it was Tina, Rachel and Aled.

Why does everyone assume that the balance within the team is reliant on their being a gender mix? It has nothing whatsoever to do with that.
#461273
I am inclined to agree about the need for a female influence on the show, but it has to be the right person- not just any female will do. And I don't think it's as important as it once was, anyway. Chris and Dave are nowhere near as blokey as they once were, so the need for
a female influence isn't as great as it once was.

I miss Rachel a lot and would be delighted to have her back, but that isn't going to happen. I also liked Juliette a lot, as I did Sam. Freya, when she steps in for Aled also provides some balance.

Tina, though, just tries too hard and frequently gets in the way in my opinion.

I feel that way because I like a mix of typical male attitudes and female attitudes. If it's too heavy either way, it can be horrible (see: The Sarah Millican show or Top Gear)

I think Top Gear is beautifully balanced in terms of being entertaining. I don't watch it for reasoned discussion and debate, or a mix of opposing views or attitudes - it is what it is and as such it works brilliantly. Putting a female presenter in there purely for the sake of "balance" would muck it up totally. I feel the same about the Moyles show - the balance doesn't depend in the least on the gender of the team members, rather their personalities. Tina doesn't bring what she brings to the show because she is a woman, but because she is Tina.

But it's almost certain that Tina's gender has played a significant part in moulding her personality as it is today (just like lots of other things will have) - given other people's perception of her, and the social conventions which fall to women and so forth.

Broadly speaking, you would be able to group some characteristics/personality traits into 'Male and Female' and I think the show benefits from typically 'Female' attributes too. One of those attributes is when the girls on the show castigate Dave for making a mildly sexist comment, which I find very funny - and doesn't have the same impact coming from Aled. I miss Rachel :(

I agree that a woman wouldn't add to Top Gear, just pointing out that the style of humour is stereotypically male-centric, which can put a lot of people off - as it can feel like too much of the same.

Agree with all of this.

Not even cleverly stupid, just clever. He's taken this new persona on brilliantly.

Despite the fact I haven't been listening to the show as long as some of you on here, I do agree with some of you who have said it about Rachel if not for the fact that I loved it when Chris mocks her with his impersonation of her. I don't mind Tina but she hasn't been truly memorable the way Rachel or Carrie has (despite the fact I only heard her live for about 7 months before she left but listening back to podcasts gives me a better understanding etc). I like Juliette too from what I heard on the 2004 shows and just weird to see that she was gone after only 9 months on the show probably to go to 5 live or something I assume but I presume they mention it on her last show or close to it.

Tina does tend to just copy certain things Dom does now that you mention it.

Exactly, she does the same thing with everyone!

She seems to add very little to the show and Chris went on about her being 'high maintenance' a while ago to give her some sort of character but that came to nothing.
