Today's Tedious Link:
Michael Jackson, The Way You Make Me Feel
Today's Transcript:
A band-aid is what the Americans call a plaster. Plaster is a word associated with Paris. Paris is the capital of France, which is somewhere that you might go skiing. Skiing is best done in the mountains, which are what Shakira compares her breasts to. Breasts are something that women have and men don't. 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' was a number 1 for Elton John and Kiki Dee. In the alphabet, D is letter number four. Four is the second best score in the game of cricket. A cricket is an insect that makes noise at night by rubbing its legs. 'Legs' was a hit for ZZ Top in 1985. If you go forward just two years from 1985 you get to 1987, and Michael Jackson had a hit in 1987, which links to Michael Jackson and 'The Way You Make Me Feel'.
Flaws:
Several issues today. Crickets don't chirp by rubbing their legs together at all; in fact the sound is emitted by the stridulatory organ, a large vein running along the bottom of each wing, covered with "teeth" much like a comb. The chirping sound is created by running the top of one wing along the teeth at the bottom of the other wing; as a cricket does this, he also holds the wings up and open, so that the wing membranes can act as acoustical sails. Also, you can score five in cricket, so four isn't the second best score. And thirdly, Shakira doesn't compare her breasts to mountains, she says that "her breasts are small and humble so you don't confuse them with mountains", which is the opposite of a comparison.
Tedious Facts:
Released - December 1987
Highest UK Chart Position - #3
