Tea has to be made with water at boiling point, so if you put the milk in first it doesn't work. You just get slightly brown hot watery milk.
The way I have tea looks like its really strong but it isn't, I like my tea medium strong but a long way from stewed, but with only a little bit of semi skimmed milk. I hate milky tea. Another thing is that the cup or mug has to be full. I absolutely hate it when someone makes me a cup of tea - therefore I have to be grateful - and its only three quarters full. I think I've picked it up from my mum - if you gave her a cup of tea like that you'd get a remark along the lines of "That's a very Middle Class cup of tea.." - and given how my mum feels about the middle classes, that's NOT a good thing.
