The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

No you're not alone in thinking that, he's the drunk college lecturer on a trip to the pub with class, its a shame cos he's only one step away from the big time now..

Travis,

Yes ultimate power when you compare with any other show, how would Greg cope talking for half an hour (for example)? That's freedom only the breakfast show can harness. And we would have to wait and see til his name was above the radio 1 door.

Word is Ben Cooper intends to put Greg on breakfast by this time next year. If true, question is, will Chris accept swapping with Greg and moving back to drivetime, or just quit radio one in protest? What do you think he should do? Personally i would like to hear Chris on afternoons again for a few years.might recapture the more relaxed and irreverant style of yesteryear!

That says Grimmi is in with a chance for it too, i would rather see Grimmi on the breakfast show, he is more likely to keep the show similar to it currently with plenty of banter, i feel if Greg got it we would end up with 2 and a quarter hours of music and 15 minutes of banter.

But why does it have to be banter? If that's not what a particular presenter is besst at, then the show would be better with less chat and more music. The only reason I like the format as it is currently is because it is Chris doing it. Anyone else who tries comes badly unstuck, see Vernon's ill-fated attempts at apeing the Moyles style - they didn't work at all, they were cringeworthy in fact. Vernon's shows covering Breakfast were fine as long as he stuck to what he knows, which is a certain level of chat, but more music. When he tried to do what Moyles does, it didn't work.

I think it depends on how good a team the DJ has around them too. Chris has a team which is just about as good as it gets and they've all built up good relationships with each other over time, and they could bounce banter off each other all day long if they wanted to. Chris on his own is damn good obviously, but without the team he'd struggle to talk for anywhere near as long as he does I think. (Just guessing, I understand that he was on his own during his early Radio 1 days and before that, but I didn't listen to him back then.)

He covered for Greg James on his own recently and was incredible. It's in the sound vault, give it a listen.

Was that the two days he did covering for Greg when Greg was ill? Bloody hell, how could I have forgotten about that? Those shows were fantastic! I came home expecting to hear Greg the first day and got an awesome surprise.
OK, I'll correct myself - Chris DOESN'T need a team on air with him like most would!

But that was a very different type of show than he does at Breakfast - he played a LOT more music. I loved hearing those shows because it just underlines what a brilliant broadcaster Moyles is. There isn't anyone else I can think of who can cover such a wide range of styles as he can - and still sound absolutely credible in all of them.

And that bodes well for Chris staying on at Radio 1 for the rest of his career, assuming he doesn't decide to leave(and I hope to God he doesn't).

In other news today, Greg has excelled himself again by reciting the opening lines to "Blue" by Eiffel 65. Nice.

Why is that even an issue?

Especially when you know the context it was in. :-|

Did I say it was an issue?
I pointed it out because it was an example of Greg trying to be funny but being cringeworthy instead. That's all.
