Even the tracks which crossover tend to be at the more sedate and bland end of the scale. I'll stick with Scrillex and Rudimental thank you very much!
What's wrong with The Beach Boys? Will Skrillex still be being played on mainstream radio stations and widely celebrated for his/her/its music 51 years from now? I highly doubt it.
Looking at the R2 playlist, I have to admit that there are quite a few songs I don't recognise, but of those I do, none would even come near to assaulting my senses in the way that Skrillex does. Even old Engelbert is harmless enough. Rubbish, but harmless. I don't know how their playlist works, as the thing I like most about R2's music is the random older stuff that's not mentioned on those lists, but which regularly pops up throughout its shows. Graham Norton's show is the only R2 one I listen to live and therefore in full and without the option to skip over songs, and I always enjoy the music he plays.
I've just had a look at the current R1 playlist too, and I'm more than ready to admit that I'm definitely not 'down with the kids' on this one! I hadn't realised just how much of the current stuff I would consider chuff. I wouldn't chose to buy any of the A-listed songs, there are two I don't mind but wouldn't buy, and the rest I dislike. I like none of the B list, and there are two on the C-list that are ok, but again, I wouldn't buy them. That's out of the song names I recognise, there are also quite a few I don't.
