The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues
#468852
I've been listening on-and-off since 1998 (When I was in my last year of school) and now at the age of 30 he is leaving the radio 1 airwaves. It's one of my last few direct cultural links to my childhood and I will miss Chris 'n' co. a hell of a lot.
But it is a radio show and we all on here get that. But when a constant is gone, it's difficult to see the future.

You've really got the emotion of today off to a tee, ain't-cha. Stop. Telling. Us. How. To. Feel. So YOU don't feel is a massive loss - brilliant, I am pleased for you.

Oh, and its hole in a life, not a whole. More attention needed to your own outpoorings than ours.

LordMonkcheese wrote:That's where you're wrong. I started listening from the afternoon show days. Viaduct was one of my favourite features. I've downloaded all the podcasts from around 2009 (thanks to this site) and have been listening to them every evening on the drive home while Scott Mills hosted the drivetime slot. I've since stopped now Greg's taken over but will recommence once Nick Grimshaw takes the reins of the breakfast show.

So I'm a fan of the show and have been for years, but the show was getting tired, there seemed to be a lack of interest in it from Chris, Dave Vitty was getting even less funny (if that's at all possible!!) and, in my opinion at least, it was time to retire it. It had to come to an end sometime so why not now when it's at least still a good show attracting millions of listeners rather than in a few years when senior management had ensured all the creativity was driven out of the show and it was nothing more that a formulaic, generic, music show with the occasional chat and from time to time, a feature.

I get that this is a fan site but some of the messages on here seem rather exaggerated almost as if people are trying to outdo one another with how big a whole in their lives his departure will create.

I don't agree with all of it, and I do think that your first post in this thread was a bit harsh, but the above is a fair enough argument in many ways to be honest. When I first heard that Mark and Lard's show was coming to an end I was really gutted and did think in a kind of weird way that 'life as I'd known it would never be the same again etc.' But whilst it was a very sad day when the time for their last show came, after a couple of weeks or so I'd found something else to listen to and moved on-both with life and radio stations/shows! So even though I've listened to pretty much all of every show Chris has ever done at R1 and I will miss all of the team an awful lot, I'm not too sad. Most things in life are rarely as bad as you think they're going to be, so chins up everyone!

Oh and they're just starting to talk to Big Boss Ben on 5live now.

Ben says that Chris' age was a factor. It was a mutual decision. He says Nick is 'fantastic' and 'has a cheekiness about him that makes you smile' and a 'passion for music'.

He expects listener figures to drop when Nick Grimshaw makes his debut. He's optimistic that Nick will be a success. There's no plans for him to have a co-presenter or team.

He's now saying how great Chris is, despite some controversies over the years.

He will be offered a show on Radio 1, but he's being cagey about the details. He's re-iterated that he is under a Radio 1 contract until January 2014.

What show on 5 Live is this on? I'll download and clip it later, but I need to know the name of the show.

And Chris' biggest fan Dan Wooton on 5live too, insisting that Chris has been pushed-not that I would necessarily disagree with him on that. Also, apparently Scott Mills and Greg James are the two 'big losers from today'.

Nicola, Ben will also be on R4 at 4.30pm discussing this. Busy day for BBB today!

Key Points:

Joint decision

New show in time for the new academic year

BBC Trust report didn't look positive - age ranges

Chris IS in talks for another show - format or timeslot not disclosed

Grimmy will be a solo voice.

I have to say that I am gutted to hear this, especially as I missed it live and had to hear the news from Fearne at lunchtime. I’ve been listening to Chris since his last year on Afternoons (Since March 2003) and could probably count on one hand how many breakfast shows I have missed in the past 8 & a half years. The show has been a part of my daily life since and it will be really weird waking up and not hearing him and the team as I get ready for my day. I have no idea if Chris or the team will ever read this thread, but I think we all should thank them for doing what they do every day and wish them all the best in the future (Hopefully still on Radio 1!)

I just want to thank all the people on this site who upload the show, and clips, on a daily basis. I, and I'm sure I am not alone, will be downloading old shows in the future just to have a daily fix of Moyles in my life. Thanks for what you do too.

I'd agree with 50% of that.

Look, I have loved the show for 8 years and before that I loved the afternoon show, and the Saturday morning show, and the Early Breaklfast show - I fully expect that I will love whatever Chris's new Radio 1 project will be. Yes it is the end of an era and I all up for making a fuss about it - but we've all noticed and posted about how the show seems to have lost its edge, how the team seem to have lost a bit of interest, and I posted a few days ago that it seemed to be in a winding down phase. So the time is obviously right for it to end naturally, at Chris's hand rather than anyone else's and with good humour and good feelings.

It IS a big deal and cause for a massive fuss, but it isn't sad. Not really.

I wonder what the last song played will be? As in original song, I imagine his mate from Take That, Ken Barlow, will be composing a suitably schmaltzy tribute song for the final show.

They could always book-end the show by re-writting the first song (or 5 min jingle depending on your veiw) ever played.
