The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Possible alternatives are Radio 2 or buying a digital radio for a station like absolute.

Who's with me? Nick Grimshaw in the morning is just not an option :(

Don't listen to Absolute's breakfast show. Christian O'Connell is the most annoying DJ ever to have graced the airwaves.

A friend recommended the absolute 80's station? Not Christian O'Connell ...no no no

Can't stand O'Connell. Or Grimmy. Or Evans. Or <local Heart Breakfast DJ>. Not sure what to do in Sept. Might need to buy an iPod adaptor for my car and listen to old shows!

Grimmy's got some big, BIG shoes to fill. Anyone had any wild guesses at how many months he's going to last on breakfast?
#468954
I dont get why they care so much about the age of the DJ's... if they're attracting tghe young AND old, whats the issue?

I was really hoping for Vernon, he's always done a grand job when standing in for Chris.

The only people at Radio 1 that i like more than Nick Grimshaw are Chris Moyles (obviously) and Sara Cox so I'll continue listening. The only thing that may put me off is if the station beomes TOO focused on a teen audience. So long as it continues to be attractive to 20-somethings I'll stick with Radio 1 as I like the music and there isnt an alternative out there for me.

Looking at it from a Radio 1 perspective I think that, if Moyles had to go, Grimshaw is a great choice to replace him.

WIll he beat Mark and Lard's stint? Hopefully he won't decide to do the show from Salford wasn't Rhys their producer? :D

Once it was announced today that Chris was leaving I always thought it would be Grimshaw they weren't going to give it to Greg after such a short spell on drive and they certainly wouldn't announce it when the new DJ is on holiday...Nick standing in for Greg worked out nicely.

Personally I'd say 2 - 3 years max (assuming ratings don't completely nosedive) then Greg will get it. Also letting Moyles leave after the weakest RAJAR quarter traditionally (summer holidays) may minimize the drop off.

I think having Nick Grimshaw replace Chris is the worst decision ever as well. It's career suicide for a DJ to follow Moyles footsteps...

I hope Chris goes to Radio 2 and gets the Breakfast Show slot. I know I for one won't be tuning into Radio 1 in the morning anymore. Wonder how many listeners they will lose. Chris is the only reason I listen to Radio 1 these days, and I'm 24 and in the "Younger Listener" bracket.

I just hope wherever Chris and the team go that they doesn't go to a regional station.

Also, are the whole team leaving the morning slot, or "just" Chris?

I would say that they are all going. In an interview with Richard Bacon earlier today, Ben Cooper said that Nick would be the only voice of the show with the occasional input from his production team unlike now where they are all a voice of the show.

I still can't get passed that. After being knocked back from producing shows through the years that he was on Chris' show, Less than a year after leaving the show to go and produce Nick, Matt gets to produce the breakfast show. Now that's good luck.

Yes it has been. I've just had to ban another newbie for posting his petition link in every single bloody thread!

The thing is, the peeps at Radio will not be expecting Grimmy to create another 'Chris Moyles show', all they will want is just another radio show, like Fearne's, like Scott's and like Greg's. They know the listener numbers will drop, and for some reason they're obviously happy for that to happen.

Could you imagine if McDonalds made a new burger that OAP's really liked, and it became one of the most successful items on sale at McDonalds, but they weren't happy with the age of the customers, so they ditched it, despite it being the biggest money maker...

This is coz they want a bulk of the Moyles rabble out the door, time to hang out with the kids again, you get me?

Fo'shizzle.

Yeah they just need to go fishing for a different and all-new type of audience. (If that can exist under the Grimmy regime?). Not for me to say, think I heard him covering last week and it was pretty basic, corporate, generic, everything I personally wouldn't want his style to be.

Im sure for so many people we're not listening to the Radio 1 breakfast show hosted by Chris Moyles between 2004 - 2012 , they were listening to Chris Moyles period.

That said, the stint Chris put in was most generous so cant complain. That was a hell of a lot of early rises taking up a great chunk of his life so he deserves a break. Job done.

Reasonably impressed by Nick. Pretty good replacement for Scott last week but nothing id swear allegiance to radio 1 in the mornings for.

But that said, im 41 in 2 days time. I need a reason to stop listening to Radio 1 now.

In my shock this morning and then reading the forums here and finding Grimshaw was taking over, it didn't even occur to me that Matt would be part of this move. Wow, he has really come full circle. Geez that's got to be weird, Matt taking on Aled's role as morning producer.

I think to have only one DJ (Nick) do the morning show rather than feed off the energy of others in the studio is a recipe for failure. It just doesn't have the same appeal. Well, management will get their 10 songs (or however many they want) played each hour.

I have to say I don't agree with this. I've listened to Grimmy a fair bit when he's covered for Greg and Scott and I think he's perfectly capable of carrying a show alone. And it's not entirely true that he's on his own - he does involve Matt on-air. Just not to the extent that Chris involves Aled etc.

For all the people questioning Grimmy as the replacement, I may not like it but it does make sense.

@NickUrquhart You say it is suicide but someone has to do it. Will Grimmy shed listeners? I'd put money on that but the listeners he will have will massively help the demographic Radio 1 should be broadcasting to.

@BBQ I think dropping the zoo format for Grimmy is a wise idea. Doing a zoo format for Grimmy would be too much like the Chris Moyles Show and be a weak version of it. Grimmy distancing himself from it at least lets him stand on his own two feet.

More crap music playing out during the breakfast slot from September on sounds like a pretty good reason to change stations...Chris and Dave are the only reasons why I'm still listening :)

If Nick Grimshaw gets 4 million I'd be shocked. I don't think Radio 1 realise how many people will be switching of in unison. Don't think they really care about the ratings, its all about appealing to the youth market and sucking up to the BBC trust.
