She reads the sports news. I do understand what you mean though, she's the only team member I won't miss at all when the show ends.

Standing there looking cute really is the only essential skill of someone who works in a male orientated environment. the less talking the better... Damn the suffragette movement.

One thing I have always wondered, and I hope the team members aren't offended by this question if they read this post, but why do they need 2 people to read both sport and news ? I presume it is a written script ? Yet for about a 2 minute news show every hour they need 2 different people to read it ? Couldn't Dom just read both sport and news ? This isn't a knock on Tina, as she seems like a really nice person and who can blame her for going for the job, but from a business point of view to a cash strapt station it doesn't seem to make much sense. But perhaps the news/sports readers do more than just read a script (or teletext, ahem).

I understand what you mean, but the reason is Tina replaced Carrie.

At that time there was no need for budget cuts in the Newsbeat area, so they replaced Carrie.

If the show was carrying on, and Tina left to, say, have a baby, I very much doubt she'd have been replaced.

But I'm not complaining, I love Tina on the show. :)

I think people have it in their minds that Carrie spoke more, but when I was listening to a show with her in to clip 'dave drops his chips' the other day, I noticed that she didn't appear at all in some links, and very little in others. I think if anything, Tina appears on air more! Also I feel in the final weeks of the show it's a bit pointless to start picking apart aspects of it, just enjoy what we have left :)

I think you need female voices for balance on a show like the CMS. I like hearing from Tina and hope she does well for herself.

Yes, Tina speaks probably more than Carrie did on an average day.

She doesn't say much, I'm guessing partly because it's hard to get a word in with four other male voices on the microphones most of the time.

BUT, when she does chip in, it's often bloody funny. And she has a mind like a steel trap -- she remembers tons of stuff the rest of the team have forgotten and drops it in now and again.

The whole "can't sing", "high maintenance", "parents live in a castle" and "secret boyfriend" bits are also great fodder for the show.

And don't forget that both Dom and Tina are often absent from the studio because they are writing the next news bulletin in the Live Lounge.

Tina FTW.

I remember seeing some sort of "backstage" video where they showed Tina cutting some clips for the news. As neilt0 said, they are also writing the news bulletin so neither Dom nor Tina just read the news.

And isn't Tina the only one without a microphone? If I remember correctly she has to lean down to either speak into Doms mic or into Daves (and no, this is not code). I wasn't a listener during the Carrie years but from the podcast I can echoe what Nicola said.

Tina got her own microphone, albeit fairly recently.

I think she should just stick to reading scripted sport. I mean who could find that Gary Barlow rap funny. She is at her best when silent, no contribution needed

She didn't write it! I find this snarking on Tina a bit mean, I must say.

Can you expect much else?

It was a thread created under a rhetorical question that barely masked the message 'I don't like Tina, if you don't like Tina then post it here!'

True. I'm glad a couple of people have defended her. We've had this discussion before though, I know a lot of people preferred Carrie.

In my opinion, they've both been guilty of believing the hype around them that the team creates - but Chris seems to try and make 'the sport girl' (whoever she is) feel included by focusing on them, and making them the butt of jokes.

Remember the awful pushes they did for Carrie's videos & interviews? I relistened to one she did with Frank Lampard and it was embarrassing - not to mention the 'Camilla Ice' escapade, which even ended up with her performing her on stage! But Carrie was a very strong, confident, combative & irrepressible personality which led to her and Rachel forming a great team (not to mention she didn't mind having her private life all over the show, which Tina isn't comfortable with), whereas Tina's a bit more shy and doesn't have the protection/rapport (that Carrie had with Rach) in Aled.

Tina's had rubbish moments too, but if she's involved then it's going to be a team decision. At least she's capable of reading the news when Dom's not in, it always bugged me that Carrie couldn't.

Its the old old situation... Personally, I blame the parents for not getting the message home.

My mother told me that all the time when I was a child, but now I take great pleasure in ignoring that advice and saying lots of not nice things about her.

There's a place for constructive criticism, but like I say, griping about things we can't change when we have so little of the show left to enjoy just seems a bit silly.

I was told that piece of advice, it's sound advice, but as I can now say what I like, sometimes I don't care and do voice my opinion and say things that shouldn't be said, such as what I said here.

Yes, I was OTT, pointless criticism when there is only weeks left of the show, should just enjoy it, and I will.

Nothing wrong with expressing opinions, whether they are positive or negative, so long as they are constructive.

Nicola is right though, now isnt really the time. Lets just enjoy the final weeks of the show.
