From memory there were bits missing from when whoever recorded them (Johnny1989?) reached the end of the MiniDisc and had to turn over.

Again. per my proposal, that wouldn't happen. One person (The Duplicator) with a copy of the uncompressed data would have 1 drive sent from 1 Quality Nut. He would dupe all the data to that drive and send it back. Rinse and repeat.

That means one source drive is not traversing the globe, the shipping would only occur once on the destination drive.
If you are suggesting shipping a drive once (one round trip) would cause data corruption, my experience with many drives suggests not, and data integrity would be verifiable with the SFV or MD5 checksum.

Once the Quality Nuts all had their own copy, the uncompressed shows would edited and compressed to MP3 and distribution of the MP3s would happen online (archive.org) not by shipping drives.

You can edit that thread now (thanks).

I'd rather, if someone was really bored, that it was edited to look a bit more like the first post of this thread as it's a bit neater (viewtopic.php?f=29&t=22764#p374470) - but that's certainly secondary to having it up-to-date.

Thanks. What in particular are you bothered about with the format? To me it doesn't look massively different apart from the bullet points and whoever edited the show being next to each show.

And Ian, would now be a good time to compare all of your shows with the archive again?

I was trying to get rid of the 'thanks to whoever' next to every single show as it looks messy and you can just put 'thanks to whoever for all these shows' once at the top of the post, but I got so far with it and then lost the will to live.

Drop all the colours, drop the massive headings, standardise the day/date/month format, clean up all the 'thanks to' - either do it as Nicola has, or just abbreviate so it doesn't detract from the link, clean up all the overrunning links (some links have text which is linked, some don't). etc. :)

I did it like this:
Code: Select all1997 Capital FM, The Late Bit (1996-1997)

I'll have a go at comparing the archives. But I'd rather not make a habit of it if possible. It's a real hassle to copy all the links from the thread, paste them into a text file, remove all the blank lines, copy the text into an Excel file, copy the names of all my files, line them up with each other, and then compare them.

But as long as every show that has been uploaded to IA doesn't go missing from the list, then there shouldn't be any difference from now on anyway.

Ok I've compared my archive with the moyles.net archive, and marked the discrepancies in red, although some will just be misnamed filenames etc. And any that I have (apart from 2009) will probably already be on IA, just not on the list. The main difference is 2009, because I have a lot of incomplete edits which I don't considered are worth uploading, and definitely aren't if Jamie or Aled have the full shows for editing.

And could you maybe remove the blank lines in between each entry (at least if they are the same month) if it hasn't been mentioned already? Makes it easier to copy and paste for comparing if there are no lines. I have a batch file that can remove blank lines if you need it.

As a slight aside, I had a rummage around at work, and in addition to my 2TB drive at home I managed to find all this...

So that's 5.73 TB of storage space if anyone needs it... Who knew hoarding would come in handy?!

I'll take them off your hands if you're giving them away! :D

This will be the 3rd time I say this but...

As we get towards the inevitable date in September. I've just ordered myself a 500gb hard drive, with the sole intention of downloading all the shows there are and keeping it on them as a bit of a hub for myself whenever I'm feeling glum.

This couldn't happen without people like bmstinton and ianpwilliams (i know there have been others too so please don't feel left out!)

Thank you guys so much for this thread, I really appreciate it.

If you're ever around Leeds, let me know, I owe you a beer or 3.

Thanks again!!!!

Thanks, that's always nice to hear. And it's even nicer to hear when you're downloading/editing/uploading a show every day (including having to wait for Fearne Cotton's show to be available for download, in order to do a complete handover because they've cut the end off iPlayer Moyles again), and also editing Jamie's old shows, but then not knowing whether to do that or not because Aled MAY give us all the shows but better quality, while copying and pasting the archive list and comparing it with your own archive by lining up the different sections.

And thanks to the others too (bmstinton, slaphead, nicola, anyone else? does mike still do it?). I'm sure there was a point where it was just me editing each day's show and also old shows, and now there's quite a few of us. I'm always glad when I see a whole month pop up in one go from slaphead :D

I do still edit my own, although if there any holes in my collection or problems with my recordings then I do download the odd one. Nothing to do with "what's mine is mine" but by listening back and editing them myself it keeps a continuity for myself. Plus it gives me something to listen to at work...

I mainly do soundclips really, apart from the odd 'special' show like soundclashes. I will repeat, though: I don't like beer, I do like shoes and jewellery. Thanks in advance. ;)
