Rowan Atkinson is the perfect guy...amazingly funny comedian whose jokes, sketches, movies and characters are timelessly funny and also a petrolhead. Can't find a better mix than that. :)

Once again, amazed that nobody has mentioned the death of Ernest Borgnine. An amazing actor with a 60yr career, star of From Here To Eternity, The Poseidon Adventure, Airwolf...and Spongebob! RIP.

OHNO!!!! Not just Nic...... I grew up listening to Deep Purple, my older brother's favourite band at this time. Shaped my musical taste for many years. How the hell did Jon Lord get to be 71?!

OhNo.

I'm glad to see i'm not alone. I thought i'd be ploughing a lone furrow here, seeing as i may be one of the oldest members on this site.

I put the 'In Rock' LP on my stereo this morning as a wee memorial, only to have my teenage daughter (still in bed) shout down to tell me to turn it down. :(
Something wasn't right there.

Yep Bas, if my memory serves me correctly Yuds is a few years older than you. I'm not old enough to remember any of Deep Purple's ouput, I just know my classic rock - and not even from my dad, he was a Beatles/Hollies pop kid, I just make it my business to know about pop culture history.

Sherman Hemsley (the guy who played the dad in the Jeffersons) has died.

I didn't know him from the Jeffersons, but he made a lot of cameos in TV shows I watched during the 90's (including the Fresh Prince of Bel Air)

Oh no.

chrisjames wrote:very sad news this morning that the actress Mary Tamm, most famous for playing the part of companion Romana in Doctor Who has died at just 62 http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/ ... sfeed=true That's 3 companions gone in just over a year (4 if you include the Brigadier) :(

Very sad indeed, a lot of the 70's cast have gone in the last couple of years we've lost Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith), Caroline John (Liz Shaw) & now Mary Tamm (Romana I), however considering the Pertwee era started over 40 years ago now sadly passings of actors from this time are going to become more & more common. :(

chrisjames wrote:Just heard the very sad news that the actor Geoffrey Hughes has died. He was most famous for playing the part of Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances and Eddie Yeats on Coronation Street. The world is a slightly less funny place now :( http://www.itv.com/news/granada/2012-07 ... ghes-dies/

On No :( A great actor, never seen him peform a role badly, the last I remember seeing him in was Heartbeat, Geoffery also appeared in Colin Baker's Swansong The Trial Of A Time Lord and was great in that as the Victorian character Mr Popplewick.

I've just thought, I imagine some people listening to the Golden Hour like that. :)

Three 'oh no's yesterday for the composer Marvin Hamlisch, who wrote the scores for many famous films and musicals, Mark O'Donnell, who also wrote some great musicals including Cry Baby, and Anna Piaggi, the amazing Italian fashion writer and style icon. RIP.
