Mine was hearing the daughters name on the Pub Quiz....WTF I thought as making sarnies for work, "Was that you?" Ii screeched with a knifeful of pickle, so courtesy of your website contact which you have now discontinued, I fought back and I'm leading 3 - 2 on mentions 8) Even the double mention on one was Tina saying "How the hell did Sally get that?" My top secret answer is through playing darts. , it was like 14 x 3 - 2 or something, in a number sequence. I love the number sequences.

Anyhow, it isn't all about me ;-)

Dave and his curry deal
Peter Dragon picking holes in the curry deal and Dave defending.
Dom and Loch Ness monster obsession
Carrie, Wimbledon - especially as it pee'd off Chris Wotsit her ex.
Dave - hillfolk
When Westwood did Bath in his Where Am I. (got it on clue 1 - YAY!!)
Dave's sweepstakes.

Ooh, loads more....thanks for being a part of my mornings, and getting me to work on time (ish). Running late and looking shite was my alternative response.

1.) Marathon Show
2.) Breaking Tony Blackburn's record
3.) Pay Rant
4.) Gordon Smart rant
5.) The quiz fixing 'scandals' and 'Sachsgate'. Obviously not on the show itself but it's effect on 'editorial policy' in generally. As Chris said the BBC became 'scared of it's own shadow'.
6.) Andy Parfitt leaving and Ben taking over.
7.) Bringing back The Golden Hour
8.) Chris joining (and sticking with) Twitter.
9.) The day Chris played loads of records cutting off links and using the chart number jingles to count the number of songs played...which is related to number 10...
10.) The Rhys Hughes Before The News Song (which for me will always be associated with the beginning of the end)

PS I'm sure I didn't dream number 9 can anyone point me at which show that was...

Not sure how to reply to this thread. Are we looking for favourite moments, or pivotal defining moments, or both? The thread title says 'key', but the first post says 'top', and at least one key moment for me wasnt a positive.

Some of my favourite moments have been when things have gone wrong, such as Juliette's last show when the fire alarm went off twice and they had to go to emergency tape, twice.

Or the occasion when the studio crashed and the team ended up dispersed between three studios to try to keep the show on the air.

Marathon Show (the finish)
Dave's curry loyalty card
Dave & The Hill Folk (sorry Aled, it was brilliantly awkward)
Matt gives Tina a piggyback...
First Play of Dominic The Donkey
Chris Moyles Birthday with Weswood & Kasabian (2010 ?)
Dave's Dancing on Ice 2D carboard cutout, and it's strangely large profile underpants.
Chris's Pay Rant
Dom meets U2
Chris & The Olympic torch
Aled's Birthday song from the other Aled

11 there, but oh well, not like counting is important in my day job!

I've gone with a mixture of things that have been entertaining & moments that have affected the show
1. Carrie at Wimbledon
2. The whole marathon show
3. Toby La Rone
4. Twitter - for bringing people closer to the team & making the show more interactive
5. Golden Hour - the soundtrack to my gym sessions!
6. Carrie & Rachel leaving - changed the dynamics of the show
7. Dominic the Donkey
8. Kareoke tour & other live audience shows (mainly because I was lucky enough to go to the Cambridge Caroloke)
9. Dave's Sweepstakes - needs no explanation
10. Internal phone system moments

Going on "key" rather than favourite:

The first show and opening 5 min song
Breaking the record for longest running breakfast show
Reaching the top of Kilimanjaro
Marathon Show - £1m and R1 record
Dave's "OBs" on paternity leave
The pay rant
Halle Berry/Drew Barrymore/Elton John
King of Tickets
Running with olympic torch
First Gold Sony Awards

Marathon show
Dave's wedding ring lost and found in Florida - the power of truly global broadcasting!
Kilimanjaro - not just the climb, but the phenomenal amount of money raised purely by TCMS. No other group effort fundraising thing has got anywhere close.
Halle Berry labelling Chris a racist
Say No To Wogan
Portugal
Dave's wedding
Dave's divorce
Dave's wedding (take 2)
Dave's divorce (take 2)

(I'm not really being flippant with those last 4 - Dave's relationship issues have had a marked effect on his demeanour and input into the show, and have strongly affected the overall "feel" of the show during those periods - especially the period directly after divorce number one when the effect was really noticeable).
#474045
This a 'key' events list:

Marathon show
Rachel Leaving
Andy Parfit Leaving
Ben Cooper becoming controller
Show becoming more visual
BBC becoming risk averse
Show starting at 06.30
Show eventually becoming speech only in first 30 minutes
Introduction of Golden Hour
Becoming longest running Breakfast Show

Some of those are positive, some are negative. There are others I havent thought of, I am sure. Others have been transitional, rather than any particular moment, so I havent included them.
#474046
Toughie but in my opinion,

Pay Rant
The leaving the breakfast show speech
NYC shows
Carrie in Wimbledon
Carrie Leaving
The Cheesy Song
Longest Show Ever
Greatest DJ Birthday Show
Moyles axed newspaper rant(s)
The week of 80s golden hours- I forget what the occasion was

11,Viaduct :D (May or may not have been an afternoon feature)

Got to say, Chris' 'gay ringtone'/Will Young comments are key moments. Not for any good reason, but you can't read a media article on Chris without those things being referenced. Unfortunate, but there we go.

Also, video web streaming - a real window into the running of the show. But the marathon was the total defining moment of the show. A colossus from start to finish - the total amount raised and the viewing figures were a real reflection of the love the show has earned over the years.

Chris' parodies have been iconic as well, I can't think of many, if any, British radio shows do that to the extent that he does. One of the most disappointing things about the final months of the show is that Chris' has (presumably under contractual obligations based around the new album), stopped doing any parodies for the radio show. A real loss in the shows' sound. Even the older ones don't really get played anymore. I'd have liked have heard an old classic played for each of the last 14 shows as a final blow-out, but sadly that's not happening. Shame.

not in order of importance, more kind of in the order they happened (as far as I can remember)

1 The opening jingle on the first show
2 Juliet leaving (Dom's Romeo and no Juliet song)
3 The Yvette Fielding interview
4 Chris' tribute to Kevin Greening
5 Chris & Dave's impressions of Terry Wogan & Ken Bruce
6 The discussion after Dave chose Gabrielle - Dreams on Tedious Link (Syreeta and her bunsen burner)
7 The pay rant
8 Mumford & Sons removals
9 The marathon shows (strangely at the time I loved his stints with Grimmy!)
10 "We're gonna wrap it up..."

Since my power just went, I've got to type it all again :( (in no order)

1. The first opening jingle. To start a show with such a self-centred (in a good way) song could have been disastrous, but Chris and the team pulled it off so well.

2. Chris's leaving announcement. He handled it so well and I was glad he told us, and we didn't hear it from The Sun, or get told that Grimmy was taking over before we knew he was leaving.

3. The marathon show. Of course it was in here. Loved the last few hours of it more than any other. Oh, and the bit where Jimmy Carr was on :)

4. The pay "rant". Not a rant, just a slightly angry opening link. Which, as I said in the other post, was one of the best openers a radio show has seen.

5. Toby Lerone, and his extended family.

6. This visual moment which I've just found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2E22lg_j2E

7. "Calling Fergus Dudley, unless you say cancel..."

8. Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr singing Chris some birthday jingles

9. The entire 2012 birthday show.

10. Dave being late for the show in Carlisle. Still think you should have left him until 0955 for a laugh.

Many more which should probably be in there. But those are the ones I can think of lol
#474063
1: Podcasts.
2: The parody songs (Both the good and bad ones).
3: Rants (General).
4: The marathon show.
5: David Guest being cancelled from the show for being late.
6: Matt Fincham "Looking for listeners" song.
7: The first O.B. for the breakfast show (Newcastle - 30th January 2004).
8: Chris being just a tad annouyed with Dave when he breaks Chris' new X-box console only for it to be revealed as being only the caseing.
9: The first Yvette Fielding interveiw (28th October 2005).
10: Clumsy Westwood.

8. The birthday show from Chris' house
