anyone else heard the new advert for grimmys show they have running atm? at the end, they have a statement....

"now with added music"

comes across as a bit of a shot at moyles to me. maybe im just bitter that the show we all love has gone, but still....

Not so much a dig as just a statement of fact really. Nobody ever tried to deny that other DJs play far more music than Chris.

I don't want to wake up to some boom boom music.. I like the nice gentle warm up jingle, then everyone saying good morning and having a chat about last night!

Nothing better to wake up to!

Oh well.. back to my alarm going "drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" I guess.

Maybe they think more music will make it more appealing to a younger generation, you know, since we're supposed to have short attention spans and that. They will do this by playing music most teenagers already have on their phones or iPods...wait a minute.

I noticed a marked change in the amount of music played by Moyles as winter turned to spring this year. Orders from above?

Maybe Radio 1 can have a special feature in December... Christmas party and Grimmy's leaving do!

Now with added music ... and massively less listeners. Fine that Radio One want a younger audience and I feel sorry for Grimey (I know, couldn't resist) but this is idiotic. Yes Chris was marmite but so many of us listened in just to see what was annoying him that day. Chris Evans must be rubbing his hands together as his listening figures can only improve because of Radio Ones decision.

Why demolishing the listners. Would they like that chris was the number 1 dj in London. 2nd bigger show in the UK. Then 3 months. Or 6 months down the line. Capital. Heart and Real radio. Arguebly the next 3 biggest breakfast radio shows in the company after radio 1 and 2 were ahead of the.radio.1 breakfast show in the ratings.

Yes. The BBC trust wants radio 1 to be yooth. But can you see the new director general once mark Thomson steps down not want the ratings to reflect well on the corporation? Yes. They want the ratings to reflect positively on them.

They couldn't possibly try and replace Chris with another 'zoo' format show. It wouldn't live up to TCMS, it would constantly be compared and slated -any show will need time to find its feet. Even if they plan to return to a zoo format later on, say with Greg, they need the contrast for now. I think Nick is a safe pair of hands for such a show and will hopefully sort out the audience age problem.

Ratings will become an issue in a couple of years. Primary goal is attracting students and other youngsters to the network. Nobody better to do that than Nick Grimshaw.

Turicum wrote:According to Aleds tweets this morning they don't care about losing listeners, it's about the younger audience.

Their remit as laid down by the BBC Trust is to attract a younger audience. Apparently the average age of the Moyles listener was 32, which overrules listener figures apparently.

So much for public service broadcasting.

Radio listening figures are gathered in a ridiculous way. A sample of people are given a diary and are asked to record what they have listened to and when. It's not at all scientific and much less reliable than TV figures.

They had the same system in the U.S. and it was replaced with Portable People Meters which actually kept an accurate check on what people were listening to.

And guess what? The people keeping diaries were lying. And radio stations closed over the results.

I have to say that I thought R1 were just promoting that their breakfast show was going to have more music, but the picture below seems to imply that The Chris Moyles Show actively made the audience suffer as a result of not having enough music.

Thats interesting. I do think a lot of people from higher income brackets / who had degrees felt "ashamed" to like Chris. The media making out like you had to be thick to like him was quite powerful for people at my Uni. A lot of people were 'in the closet' fans. Whether that translates significantly to radio diaries I dont know.

That's certainly the case with a lot of my friends. Whenever I'm driving I stick on a podcast and a lot of my friends (and my girlfriend) tend to laugh along and find it quite funny - but none of them would describe themselves as fans, preferring to say that they don't listen to the radio or that they listen to stuff like 'desert island disks'.

It's always been 'cool' not to like Radio 1 daytime.

Unfortunately, celebrities and music trends will win over the younger audience. I'm pretty sure Chris got a wiff of what the new plans were and from my POV, took a step back from it all. With Chris' dedication to radio, he might of normally given more advice to the new presenter etc. However, his involvement seems very little; especially with dead break of the show rather than having Grimmy involved in the final couple of weeks to make it a more natural take-over (like the Scott/Greg swap).

What I've said above is my own speculation, but I'm trying to imagine what he would feel like if he knew the exec's hated the lack of music and seperation of the rest of Radio 1 compared to his show.
