I like Absolute radio , for the music if nothing else. Actual proper music. Shame about about O'Connell.

This. And the adverts. I switched my radio alarm to that this morning.

Already spurred my annoyances in the ramble thread. Put on R1 at 6:30am and just got the normal "scott mills doesnt have a clue" and pile on the music until they've woken up. So turned it off and put Hirsty on (Capital Yorkshire). At least that man made some funny references to Chris Moyles wanting to gain "1 extra listener" now he's gone. Actually, he sounded like he had utmost respect for him (more than R1 since Chris left on Friday) by referencing him at least. I know they're both good friends but at least they're preference on chat over music (although the adverts annoy me) made it listenable.

I'd recommend it if you want the insane/random chat and clever features if you dont mind adverts and general pop music. I'm avoiding Radio 2 like the plague except weekends.

I felt really out of sorts this morning not having the familiar routine - eg wake up at start of cheesy song and get out of bed at the end etc etc. It's still sinking in this is not a holiday for the team. Tried Chris Evans today - was OK ish but really just background noise rather than something I am actively going to be listening to....

It was funny flicking around the dial today. The commercials are circling like vultures around the corpse of
Radio 1. So many shows mentioned who there team was and the line "...if you havent listened before" was overused.

6music- gave it a try today, would be nice if it has a breakfast show with a hint of humour. Why would you listen when you could just put your ipod on shuffle? I wonder if Mark Radcliffe would ever step into the breach with Marconie? That would be a great 'Radio 1.5' type breakfast show.

None of this is new though. It's exactly the same situation as when Moyles would go on holiday. Next week will be the test when Grimshaw takes over. If I don't like his show god knows what I'll do.

I had a lay in till 7 today, and didn't put the radio on for the hour I was getting up and ready.

Listened to Scott for about 15minutes from 8 o'clock. But it was just mainly 2 songs, teen awards plugging and assuring listeners that Grimmy hadn't missed today's show - and this gap week was planned.

'Tis true, but the knowledge that there will be no more Chris Moyles Show in a couple of weeks is a bit depressing... having said that, I did enjoy my listen to the first Chris Moyles Show (on breakfast) this morning.

I was going to say the same thing. Personally I'm happy to listen to Mills whenever Moyles is on holiday - I'm just less inclined to listen the whole time, unlike with TCMS where I tried not to miss any of the chat. But I've never actually changed station on my clock radio on those occasions, and don't plan to next week either.

However, next week will be tough as it won't merely seem like Moyles is on holiday any more. I also fear I'll be constantly reminded of my new position (i.e. right at the end) in the target audience for mornings on R1.

So if it's not for me, I'll accept it and find something else. Not sure what yet, but I'm going to cross that bridge when I come to it. I quite like the idea of trying a different station every day - sounds like a fun project to preoccupy my miserable mind on weekday mornings. However, I am a bit picky, and these are my demands:

- Must include current music (and I generally still like R1's output).
- As well as news bulletins, must include light-hearted discussion of current or previous day's events.
- Must be funny/entertaining.
- No adverts.

I can't imagine any station other than Radio 1 being able to provide all of the above.

Unfortunately, the no adverts requirement will be tough. :( However, you want more of the other stuff; check out Hirsty's Daily Dose on Capital Yorkshire. Both of them are friends funny enough and have a similar witty style and carry original features. The music is not as extreme (leaving out the heavy dance music R1 plays) and news is pretty light too.

Thanks, although I'm afraid I forgot to include the following:

- Must be available in East Central Scotland. :(

In truth I probably will move on within the next couple of years, but it's far more likely to be somewhere in the north of England than London.

Mobile App?
Computer?
Console?

My FM and DAB selection is a little bit limited. Used to get Capital Yorkshire (when it was Galaxy Yorkshire) under the Galaxy Digital guise. They pulled it a couple years ago which was a shame, so have to use my mobile to tune in to that station. My DAB radio is going to render as an alarm beeper at this rate.

Hubby's twitchy, this morning I actually spoke to him before he went to work, rather than telling him to sshhusshhh as I was listening to the banter on CMS.

I tried R1, R2, R4 & BBC Bristol.

I've listened to chris since he was on afternoons in 2002 I've grown up with him I was in college when I started listening (shaking with mirth at 'bang will's head against the studio window' while in a dead silent life drawing class).
I moved to Australia 3 years ago and have still religiously listened to chris every day on listen again, I'm at a total loss as to know what to listen to now, grimmy wont be any good in the morning - part of his charm and most of his show is based off the fact hes got fabulous friends who drop in at a moments notice those fab friends wont be dropping in at 7am...

Anyway aside from my initial waffle the question I wanted to ask was - what THE HELL is One Extra for if its not for 15-25's?!
I'm now 27 so I also am not part of the demo for radio one, but no worries the only other person I would have listened to is scott mills and his side kicks dont always work for me.

I thought customer/listener loyalty would be one of the best things for a radio station regardless of their age surely it shows people sticking with something that works?

As for Australian radio - to borrow a word from CM - Its all bilge (triple J, the national radio station, last time I listened the dj couldnt remember what she'd just played to back announce it).

I've taken to listening to Planet Rock on my DAB in the house. I always considered Moyles to be talk radio as I usually found stuff to do while songs were on e.g. showering. Sadly I can't find another programme which really matches that, particularly in the car where I can only get 9 radio stations. :(

Prepare to make even more fun of me... I'd actually love a job in Liverpool or Manchester. I have family connections to Liverpool and been there many times, and my parents are moving down to Cumbria to retire as farmers (odd as that sounds). I'm starting to feel a bit left out being stuck up here on my own in Fife (people my age don't stay long in St Andrews anyway), so the plan is either to move to Edinburgh where a lot of my mates are or somewhere further south.

Yesterday I tried BBC Essex, Heart Essex and R2. Didn't like it.

Today I replayed the final show from my phone through the car stereo.

Manchester's great! You'd love it. Honest. Our Scouse friend Ian said to me last week that he likes it much better here than Liverpool :)
