The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I was thinking that Nicola, I'd be surprised if they don't bring Tina back into the studio. There's also the possibility that she doesn't want to be in there, I suppose.

I've got it on in the background in the kitchen but I'm not listening to it in the same way I did Chris and the team.

Can I just make a point here that many people across t'interweb are saying give him a chance, let him bed in, give it a few weeks etc.

Did we ever need to do this in January 2004??? I certainly didn't!

I honestly can't remember what I felt about Chris' show at the beginning. But I was a fan from afternoons so it wasn't quite the same.

Love that Chris sent in a gift and Nick has acknowledged him and his legacy. All very civilised.

Well there is definitely more music isn't there! I believe that they are speaking to a different member of One Direction each day this week? Well if that doesn't bring the teens in, then I don't know what will. However, as much as they are playing/speaking to One Direction/Justin Bieber etc, they can't do that EVERY DAY for the next year or so. So I might start listening in a few weeks when that has hopefully died down... Shame, because I think Grimmy is hilarious and have always loved him filling in for other DJs. I just feel like I lose a few brain cells every time I listen to Radio 1 now :( the only shows worth listening to in my opinion are The Surgery, Sara Cox and Vernon.

I don't think there's much to bed in, he's been presenting a show on Radio 1 for a good while now, he's presented a TV show for years, he's hardly a wet behind the ears novice.

I just don't like his style or his substance.

The thing for me is that I don't particularly care about the music, it's lowest common denominator rubbish that brings with it the self fulfilling prophecy which Radio 1 used to steer clear to the point where it's mission statement was set against it.

Which means that the reason I'd listen is for something to engage me between the music (and ideally with as little music as possible).

I fully accept I'm not what the BBC want for a Radio 1 listener, but I still think I can cast a critical, fairly disparaging ear over the shows.

Edit: dispassionate, not disparaging.

He's different but he's not bad.

The problem with that strategy is Radio 1 bigwigs think that will get them "the kids", but it won't. It will get them teenage girls. And alienate most males, young, old and tween -- at least half the audience.

It's short-sighted and misguided.

I listened from about 7.20, on and off. The Bieber and One Direction stuff was a bit much, but like others have said it might be a banker for getting listeners in. Thousands, maybe millions, of teenage girls are going to tune in to hear the interviews and songs of those two. Hopefully that will die down within a week or so.

As a 20-year-old I'm well in the age range Radio 1 are looking for, but they seem to be aiming even lower than my age with this show as it is all tween pop slush. I do think Nick Grimshaw is a good presenter, but obviously not in the same league as Chris.

It's kind of like a panic reaction after removing Moyles and not actually sitting down to think how they're going to go through the transition period. Unlike the previous handovers of breakfast presenters, this seems like a sudden cut-off of Chris and then expect a miracle of 15 - 25 year olds to join in and listen.

The fact is, the Justin Bieber/1D fanset fits a younger audience potentially and excludes the higher end of the audience spectrum their trying to attract. It wasn't like Chris avoided all guests that fit the audience. He still had 1D, McFly, Chip Diddy Chip, Tinchy Strider etc all on the show.

I know this has all been said, but it seems Radio 1 have dropped the #TeamGrimmy campaign already as it wasn't mentioned once and the show was in a bit of a mess. It may of helped for Grimmy to have a team of people to come to mic but trying to go solo is probably the most difficult thing to do as a breakfast presenter. Day 1 was pretty poor. The jingles sound like News at 10 and there were too many things similar to what CM did (the quiz, planting sound FX over stuff). Hoping day 2 is a bit more organised or I'll be well and truely moving away from R1 in the mornings.

Yeah, at the end when all of the daytime DJs were in the studio with Nick, Zane Lowe said "hashtag Team Grimmy" and Nick very quickly said "No, we're getting rid of that". Did it backfire?

I'm going to give Grimshaw a go, but he can * wait, this week I'm listening to Zoe Ball. Really liked her show this morning.

I think so, right from the off. Seemed like a very rash and quick decision not to go with it. Shame all their visual promotion has it plastered all over (including the image of tomorrow's guest holding a sign saying #TeamGrimmy tweeted after the show).

It could work out like people who hack the US government, they sometimes give them a job as a security analyst. You never know!

Given "Grimmy" and "Finchy" have had 2 months to plan for this day, I think to be honest it was a bit of a shambles, and not a good footing to get off on. I noticed on Twitter Chappers had a slight dig (prob tongue in cheek) about knicking one of his and Dave's features, and generally it was all a bit slap dash.

If it was first night nerves then maybe he is worth another listen; he has an immense act to follow, and I would envisage that anyone might be a touch nervous. However if by the end of the week it is no better, then he should go back to night times.

Other interesting things I noticed today:

On the few links I heard, he was trying to (jokily) name drop other radio stations (mainly in London area, remember it is an International show)
He seemed to be casually running late to certain items and features
The majority of his comments to "Finchy" were slightly derogatory

I am sure the last Breakfast DJ used to do similar things........
