Chris played music from the exact same playlist music which is picked by R1 execs and producers, not presenters (I guess there's a chance Nick will now be involved but nothing to confirm this).

Pretty sure all daytime producers got a seat on the playlist meetings - Aled certainly did, I'd imagine Matt Fincham has taken his place.

I got the impression that membership on the playlist committee was something Radio 1 employees have to apply for if they're interested, which Aled (and probably Matt) did because they were interested, rather than something they do as part of their jobs.

I think with regard to the playlist, there was a bit of an "understanding" that the music department would schedule stuff that Chris was less likely to rant about during Breakfast. The music was notably more varied (as well as there being more of it) when Mills was filling in etc.

This really is quite horrible. Ive had to retune the bathroom and mobiles radio away from Radio 1 now. Its the only station ive listend to since the 90s. I cant listen to Grimshaw. Im sure he's a nice fella and all but this is such a massive drop of entertainment.

Rather bothered that thats the end of me having an idea as to whats in the chart at any given time but...its got to be.

I cannot cope with radio adverts so its got to be the BBC. So Radio 2 then.

Oh fate, how you mock me. I recoil in horror when I think of the 1997 Kevin Greening and Zoe Ball breakfast show. I recoil further remembering when she went solo with it. All the wrong buttons pressed, all the wrong tunes played, all the talking herself into an awkward silence between records. Oh sure. Whos replaced Chris Evans whilst hes on holiday? The one time I have to redial? Big joke. Big frigging joke.

To be fair a 15 year grudge against Zoe Balls intro to radio is unfair. Still, new Chris back next week? We'll see how we go. Does he still chat with Zig and Zag in the bathroom?

I thought Zoe Ball had a tech op on Radio 1 Breakfast because she couldn't work the desk (despite the fact that she could work the BBC1 continuity desk aka the Broomcupboard when she had to!) Bloke known as Ginner as I recall?

For me Chris Evans is a bit too safe and trying too hard not to offend the older listeners these days, not like he was when he did the Radio 1 Breakfast Show or the Virgin Radio reincarnation of it.

I didn't bother giving Grimmy another chance today, but judging from the reaction on the Radio 1 Facebook page it appears todays show hadn't improved.

I do feel for the guy, as I think he's proper up against it. Have the Beeb made a mistake ? yup, massively !

I'm actually quite glad that Ben Cooper didn't do what I thought he might and get Scott Mills to cover until the new year and then start the new show in January. While Mills isn't always my cup of tea I do genuinely respect what he's done at Radio 1 and I'm glad that he wasn't put in the position of doing a show that would, by default, be considered by many to be crap compared to that which went before.

As others have said the first couple of Moyles Breakfast shows were a bit lacklustre, it was the Wednesday of the first week before there was any real confidence to the show, so given time it might start to bed in a bit once he gets more comfortable - he does have bloody big boots to fill.

Zoe Ball was very good again this morning...

I really like Zoe. She's so nice that I actually found myself looking forward to the items she was trailing for after the news, which included learning about the history of scotch eggs, hearing a Westlife guy talk about Strictly Come Dancing, and some 'school run fun'. I was even singing along to Dean Martin's 'That's Amore'.

God I'm old.
