He's definately been given the orders from his superiors. Gives me satisfaction this show is unlikely to get any better. 8)

Am I the only person that actually likes Grimmy's opening music?

The telephone link from outside with the Emma Watson fans didn't work. Car crash radio this morning.

* hell. God forbid anyone say anything on a 3.5 hour show other than "Here's the latest Wand Erection track!"

Let's not introduce any speech listeners would be interested in.

BBC Trust:

Radio 1
Part l: Key characteristics of the service
1. Remit
The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with
a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech.

Read that, Radio 1 bosses!

If it is the one that started the show on Monday then no, you're not the only one because I like it as well! Granted it is no cheesy song but it is better than anything One Direction & Justin Bieber do!

I really like Zoe. She's so nice that I actually found myself looking forward to the items she was trailing for after the news, which included learning about the history of scotch eggs, hearing a Westlife guy talk about Strictly Come Dancing, and some 'school run fun'. I was even singing along to Dean Martin's 'That's Amore'.

God I'm old.

YES! (Not to the fact that your old, to the other bit... though you may still be old). I enjoyed all of that even though I have no actual interest in Strictly Come Dancing OR Westlife (I did switch over for a short while when she played a Westlife track though). And I sang along to That's Amore too.

Ok I vowed to give the show 2 weeks to impress me. The truth is I cannot listen to it any longer and refuse to give it any more of my time. It is without doubt the worst Radio show I have heard on Radio 1 and I'll give it 8 months before Grimshaw is replaced.

Thing is, I don't think, if Grimmy had his own way, that he'd do the show this way. His night time show was nothing like this, surely the BBC need to realise this wont work in the long term and give him some freedom to do something other than one direction related features? I'm very much in the target audience and finding it boring and monotonous.

It's almost as if he's been set up for a fall by management. The best DJ's use their own personalities when broadcasting. Look at every successful major DJ, most are slightly rebellious and edgy. Grimshaw is the opposite at the moment and its going to hurt him badly.

I'd give it three RAJARs. The first one won't truly reflect the change as it's due for release at the end of October but runs up to the end of the TCMS. Will be interesting to see if the final 2 weeks of shows uplifted this 6.93 million figure. However, end of January; we should know the start of how far deep the change has cut into the listening figures. This includes figures between the Scott Mills interim week and all of Nick's shows up until 16th December.

If the BBC has gone too far to attract the younger audience, I would guess the overall listenership will go down from 11.27 million to under 9 million as a worst case? And the TCMS to Grimmy from 6.93 million to maybe under 6 million? Maybe 5.5 million if people have really taken a dislike to it.

The BBC may defend itself in January and ask Grimshaw to step up, but 8 months will get us to the third RAJAR. Think you'll be right. 8)

I'm not sure how much they care about the RAJARs, Aled pretty much confirmed that R1 don't care they're going to lose listeners.

At the end of the day, if the BBC Trust is happy, then Radio 1 bosses will be happy. RAJARs are much more important with commercial stations down to the clout it gives them with advertisers, but obv with Radio 1 it's more a boasting point I'd imagine.

I think this is an unfair criticism. Moyles played playlist music and it was rarely subdued (apart from Classical Class, and they talked all over that). We've had Skrillex before 7am on more than one occasion.

Oh they will care if Grimshaw's performance is bringing the whole station down with it. They'll probably be a tolerance point, but if the Breakfast show dips quite low, then we may see everyone else at the station suffering for it. Secretly they say they don't care, but they will if they don't get enough youngsters onboard. There's plenty of them and most unfortunately out of work. Radio 1 should be doing features to help young people if they want to lose the zoo format, not bang on about One Direction/or the nearest pointless celebrity all the time.

Maybe I'm being too kind with 5.5 million. If Grimshaw gets the lowest ratings ever, then he'll be shafted out very quickly! I don't know what the lowest ever was and who achieved that before Moyles.

They did. They lasted seven months. Bear in mind that they were so reluctant to take the show that they demanded a 100% pay rise, thinking they would never get it - and they did.

Oh I know, but to criticise and then play a similar song 2 minutes later....?!

I didn't say playing upbeat music was a problem, I said playing upbeat music when you've just complained about the exact same thing is stupid. And I stand by it.

Oh, yeah, I see what you mean. I didn't hear that bit, didn't wake up early enough!

I never knew that. Sad to say I've never heard Mark and Lard before I just remember hearing how bad the ratings were on their breakfast show. I keep meaning to give them a listen.

Their afternoon shows are a delight - they're what got me into Moyles in the first place, cos he was on after them. Really worth downloading a couple from the vault.
#480663
There's also an excellent chapter about their time on breakfast in Mark's book Thankyou For The Days. Very funny and honest.

The archive is nowhere close to having the complete afternoon shows to justify doing that.
