AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

What is it with that pile of manufactured Cowell-Pooh? Do they have compromising photos of Ben Cooper or something? Why is there a complete blanket smothering of this lot every 10 minutes??

From 8am to 6pm on Saturday 6th October each member of One Direction will present their very own Radio 1 show live from a top secret location. They’ll be picking tunes, giving shout-outs and maybe even making the tea.
Here’s the line-up:
• 8am to 10am - Gemma Cairney & Liam Payne
• 10am to 12pm – Nick Grimshaw & Harry Styles
• 12pm to 2pm - Scott Mills & Zayn Malik
• 2pm to 4pm - Huw Stephens & Niall Horan
• 4pm to 6pm Greg James & Louis Tomlinson

Without words...

It's probably because they're only second to Justin Bieber when it comes to appealing to their target audience, and they have some of the most vocal fans in the world - meaning that they will have evidence of a lot of positive feedback if they're the Radio show who becomes associated with playing them.

Only part of their target audience though. The teenage girls may love them but I doubt this is doing much for any males between the ages of 15-29. It seems like really narrow casting.

This is the silver lining to Chris leaving - I don't have to tune into the team and have to listen to some * One Direction teeny bopper.

You would think that everyone loves One Direction with the fact they have a member on each day and play their latest god-awful single. Not to mention that whole One Direction day where they host a show with a DJ just shows that Radio 1 is pretty much kissing their ass. People behave like they're the 2nd coming of Christ or something and it sickens me.

I'm hoping that Radio 1 get slapped with an 'undue prominence' order over this, like they did with their Harry Potter day (although I sympathised with the HP one.)

BBC Code Of Conduct wrote:We must avoid undue prominence when contributors appear on chat shows and other programmes where they are promoting a product, such as a film, album or book. Although proper editorial discussion is perfectly acceptable, the related product should not normally be used as a prop unless clearly editorially justified. Any visual references, particularly close-ups of an album cover or pages of a book, must have clear editorial justification.

Didn't Capital come close to the line with promoting a few of their own commercial bands under the Global brand consistantly with competitions etc? It's fine One Direction are the face of the Teen Awards but to use them constantly is a bit dodgy considering they're getting considerable more airplay and airtime with the phone calls etc. Bit of a bung job from the record company saying - please do this and that.

You think the One Direction stuff is bad? Chris played God is a DJ by Pink on every show I've heard from 2004 so far.

Nicks facebook page suggests that America will be listening but most of Britain will be doing other things, Like retuning there radios'.
How can one station get it soo wrong. They whent for younger listeners and they whent too far. Now the figures will show that most of the listeners are from abroad (America/Australia etc) and are under the age of 12. Radio 1 has ballsed up this time.

Pink ain't that bad! She was making a name for herself at the time and at least didn't come from a horrible not so talented musical show devised by Mr.Cowell.

I'm not saying she is bad at all just that Chris has also been guilty of over playing a particular song or artist.

Surely a producer/station playlist decision rather than Chris'? Unless Chris had much more influence on what went in the playlist on his show back then because he did lick Pink's arse every time he played it.

I think based on the styles of music Grimmy would have been to to like One Direction and Chris made a personal choice to heavily promote Pink. That being said back in 2004 Chris has played the same songs every day for 3 weeks now.

No different than now bar minor changes. The singles chart was no way as pacey as todays download chart. Still the same A, B, C playlists where the A stuff gets pumped out every day. I'd like to compare the Grimmy playlists for each day by the end of the week. Same songs, but different rotation.

I appreciate that there is a playlist, of which Grimmy and Chris (sometimes) would have to work to, that is how a radio station works. In most jobs there are "preferred suppliers" for almost everything you do; so in that respect, if he played their single everyday at the same time it really isn't an issue.

What is the issue is that in 3 1/2 hours of radio time, he has to mention them (what seems to be) every 1 or 2 minutes. This morning I listened for 10 minutes, and run out of fingers, toes and other digits to count the times he mentioned them.

Maybe for Comic Relief, he can do a red nose challenge of not mentioning them for a specific amount of time. If he manages an hour, I would happily pledge money.....

I can't believe as a 19 year old male I somehow find myself outside of the target audience for the R1 breakfast show. I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to Grimmy talk about One Direction for three and a half hours.
