Yudster wrote:So what is her response to the idea that as an adult you are entitled to a level of privacy which includes at the very least the acceptance that your bedroom is your space and you have a reasonable expectation that it be left to you? Because it IS a reasonable expectation, I don't think I know of anyone - parent or child - who wouldn't find your mum's behaviour baffling at best, disturbed at worst. She can't possibly cite a reasonable excuse for going into your room without being asked, so if she actually thinks she IS being reasonable, I would find that more than a little worrying.

My mum used to be the same when I lived at home, right up until I left at 20. The reason given was "it's my house", it was the same reason why she used to moan that my room (which was on the top floor of the house away from most things - literally just mine and my brothers room in a converted attic) should always be tidy. Trying to reason with "it's my room, I pay rent and I'm an adult" was never good enough.

Completely understand your pain charlalottie!

Two things:

Get your own back by helping her to tidy her things too. (read tidy, as in, move elsewhere).

Ensure a highly embarassing situation awaits once she comes in the room - she'll not bother again.

When I moved back in with my parents after splitting from the aforementioned ex, it was very tough all round really. I was 31 and used to independence, I had to start a tiring 35 mile each-way commute on public transport, and my mother is obsessively tidy. It even turned to comedy one morning when I spilled a small amount of ground coffee on the worksurface, wiped that coffee up with a dishcloth, but then FAILED TO RINSE THE DISHCLOTH. When she complained I took the piss out of her so badly that even she was forced to find it funny. The time she found a used condom under my bed, however, was not amusing at all.

You think you know embarrassment? My lovely 17 year old daughter did me the huge favour - unasked, but welcome - of reorganising a lot of stuff in my room that she knew I was dreading doing. It was such a lovely surprise when we got home and it was all done. What was not so lovely though was that she had saved the used condom she had found and waved it at Mr Yudster when he got home, saying "I really didn't need to be finding this you know...."

Yes I think she wore gloves.

oh God, the trauma. The whole parents-having-sex thing is just grim. Dan often laughs at me whenever I recall such memories (he's never known his mother).

I was lucky enough to live away from my parents all year round for the first 3 years of uni, but then moved into halls so had to return for one summer.

I'd taken home all my toiletries remaining from my uni days and was concerned one day to find that my mum had tidied the contents of my bedside cabinet and neatly arranged everything, condoms and all.

Our pub quiz guy just played Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs. All I could think of was Chris' Donny parody.

I miss the show :-(

Deliberately buy stuff from a certain Ms. Summers and leave it lying about?

I can confirm, when your daughter shouts up the stairs to you "Mum, can you grab my purse, its in the drawer of the bedside cabinet" and you stumble across her vibrator in the process of complying, it can be slightly embarrassing. I may have handled it slightly better than I imagine your mum might.

I cannot wait to make these moments as awkward and hilarious as possible in my future child's life.

Just reading the details of the court case happening against Justin Lee Collins. I know he has pleaded not guilty, but it's very disturbing stuff he is accused of. I wonder if this had happened a year ago, would Moyles have continued to support him?..

I'm pretty sure JLC didn't appear on the show between the time of the accusation and his final appearance in the last week.

It is a weird case. If it's all true, JLC is....erm....nuts.

No, he didn't. I was aware of the accusations against him, and I didn't know if that was related to his lack of appearances, or if it was just that he was busy in Rock of Ages.

The thing is my fomer fiance was intensely jealous and didn't want me to have an online presence either. I've mentioned before that it's no coincidence that I registered here shortly after I'd split up from him. So I do empathise to an extent, although he never hurt me physically. He also never kept a sexual history notepad on me, thankfully.

I have a feeling that if you did, this would be another of those rare occasions where you an I are in complete agreement about something...
