The ads might drive you insane, but you'll get more chat than your average commercial station and Hirsty is very wise with his words (with very funny responses from his sidekicks). He's more of a proper broadcaster than most around. Even does a show on Capital Gold with 80s stuff. He knows a thing or two about the music as well.

I am listening to his latest podcast at the moment. It is pretty good actually. The woman has the potential to be very annoying though.

No, you can RTMPdump* them, or use ST with the previous URL (not mine), but it'll take hours with ST.

* I've never had success with that, I've only wget'd unprotected HTTP streams, but the goose (duck/swan?) may know more.

I'll need to get a DAB radio on payday, Capital FM London breakfast has never been any good since Tarrant left, O'Connell was good on XFM but I'm not keen on him on Virgin/Absolute, Kiss100 these days is awful and Heart 106.2 is crap with Magic been too twee.

Tried Evans on Radio 2 but it's not for me, Keavney is the best so far, not as good as Moyles but he does chat and I like 6Music's playlist, so I'll have to listen to him (unless I get an iPod dock/alarm radio)

Radcliffe and Maconie are ace however, really like there show and if I recall correctly I have every 6Music show from their first day on there last year up to about 2-3 months ago when I had to stop due to a lack of laptop space (laptop is now dead) also have their last 3-6 months (I think) of their Radio 2 show.

If anyone is interested I (or one of the others) could edit and upload them to the Mark & Lard archive section on here if possible/allowed (it would have to be renamed to The Mark & Lard And Maconie archive)

Ok excellent, once I have my new.laptop next month and you're ready I could send some your way

Yeah, I wouldn't mind editing some of those too.

Also, I had a dream last night that Moyles was doing a radio 2 show. It may only have been a one-off or possibly like a pilot, but was definitely R2. Worth bearing in mind in case I've gone psychic.

Great stuff, I found a 16gb memory stick full of their shows along with a stick full of Marc Riley's 6Music shows and Danny Baker's BBC London & Five Live shows so got plenty of alternatives to Moyled if anyone wants them :) What will be the best way for you both, me uploading to internet archive to download, sending me a USB stick for me to copy them over?

Regarding Moyles on Radio 2, wasn't there a rumour about him possibly doing ab 80's show on there?

There was a rumour so my dream may well have come from that. I wish I'd got to find out how it went, but alas I didn't :)

and yeah, what's the biggest usb stick you can buy these days, 16gb? How much space do we need..?

The biggest sticks I have are 16gb ones but I know I have loads on my 1tb hard drive and several on the laptop drive, the hard drive is fine thankfully so all I need is a hard drive dock to get them off there and onto the 1tb drive/usb sticks for extra back up.

Biggest USB stick you can get is 64gb I believe but they were quite dear, someone at work got a 32gb for £20 which i may get one or two for extra back up.

I also have the last 3-6 weeks of Colin Murray on Radio 1, Wogan, Jo Whileys last morning and last ever show and some vintage Sara Cox too

I used to really love Russell Brand's Radio 2 show before Andrew Sachs killed it, and I recently discovered an archive of all the podcasts:

http://www.russellbrandpodcastarchive.com/

Some good listening there if anyone fancies giving 'em a try.

steve leady wrote:So I'm 42, way over Radio 1's target age group. Fair enough, but what are the BBC doing for me?

Radio 2 - Boring, dull, middle of the road tosh, 'big band specials', military band nonsesnse and all the Radio 1 cast offs
Radio 3 - Err no thanks
Radio 4 - yes for the news, but for entertainment??
Radio 5 - Ask me again when you've got an FM frequency!
Radio 6 - ditto - even worse than Radio 5 as the car manufacturers have by and large given up on digital radio and my car is my main listening time

So come on Mr Cooper, what are the BBC doing for me? Naff all is the answer - and I suspect for a lot of other people as well.

Get yourself a pure digital highway, or similar - DAB in the car is fine. You should be able to get one for about fifty quid now.

I've followed the radio show and this website for years and never felt compelled to write until today. I miss the show so much that it's really changed my mood in the morning. I gave Nick's show a go this morning and I suddenly felt very old (i'm 30) and that I radio 1 was no longer for me ... but the saddest part was I don't know what to listen to. I know it's cheesy but nothing compares to the Chris Moyles Show.

Thank goodness for this website and the amazing directory of sounds/video directory.

What are other people listening to?

In no particular order (except for the first one)

1) Chris Moyles archive and podcasts
2) Scott Mills
3) Greg James
4) Capital London breakfast show (which is quite a good replacement for Moyles and the team)
5) Old Ricky Gervais XFM shows and podcasts
6) Adam Carolla podcasts
7) Jim and Eddie podcasts
8 ) Ten Minute Podcasts

Well, I said I was switching to radio 2 but.... I cant do it. I just cant. Zoe Ball is still as poor as she was in 1997. Ill give Evans a try next week but failing that, im going to have to listen to albums from here on. Just as well I have a much GBs card on my mobile.

I really wasnt prepared for how much of a hole Moyles was going to leave getting to work in the morning. This is an awful situation.

So I retune to Asbolute Radio last night and get woken up by such songs as Gun's version of Word Up and Simple Minds' Alive & Kicking, and no One Direction chat in site. They could be a potential new breakfast show for me (although the ads are a bit annoying)

That's the only thing. Having listened to mostly BBC Radio all my life, I'm not quite numb to the commercials like some might be :( . And my DAB doesn't get Capital Yorkshire (as Capital Digital or what was Galaxy Digital).
#480958
I could handle commercials as such, but the problem with commercial radio is that you get the same three commercials over and over again. It must cost a fotune for the individual advertisers, because goodness knows there don't seem to be many of them.
