The prosecution on this JLC trial are leaking things that could point out that the defendant isn't the most stable of people - as well as there being a lot of excuses for a lack of evidence in her stories. This will be an interesting one when the defence has their turn.

When I did my journalism degree and sat in on Crown Court proceedings, I was absolutely amazed by the way the prosecution and defence just completely turn each others stories around. I mean I was 18 and probably quite naive, but still, it was far more dramatic than anything I'd seen on tv drama. It made me realise how little of the full story we get from news reporting of trials.

I can't stand the newspaper's reporting of trials like this.

It's very unlikely that the defence will get as many column inches - which means that if this is all an elaborate lie, JLC's reputation will still never be the same as it was. I think reporting of trials should be banned until the trial itself has finished.

It's possible that she could be mentally unstable and making a lot of this up to vilify the man who left her - using domestic violence's status as a taboo to damage his reputation permanently.

I'd say so. That's totally possible. Like with any crime, women who invent claims of domestic violence/sexual assault cause terrible damage not only to the men they accuse, but also to other real victims of such crimes. If this woman were to be lying, she'll have made a real mess of JLC's reputation as well as perpetrate that idea that women regularly make these things up to get revenge on men who've 'wronged' them. That's such a huge problem in partner/spouse/date assault/rape cases.

I think we probably agree on it essentially - you would just phrase it differently But to make up claims like the ones made against JLC would undoubtedly damage everyone involved and it would be an insult to women who genuinely have suffered years of domestic abuse. So even though I have always liked JLC and don't want him to turn out to be a crazy, I also don't want this woman to be lying. If that makes sense.

Biased reporting, well in court although the language of law might be confusing the vast majority of the proceedings need to be in plain english so the jury can understand what is going on. Its one area where you would expect the press to have no issue with getting the story right. My conclusion is everything is manupulated to some extent to sell the paper, reporting of scientific discovery is even more biased, everything is quoted as fact. I note today that oven chips give you cancer! if they really wanted to do a piece on avoiding cancer they'd mention cigarrettes the use of underarm antipersperant, the benfits of a good diet pollution and the impact of plasticisers on living organisms .

I think this is the third such case at the school, so he may have deliberately applied to work at Pedo High.
