The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Didn't think I would miss the show as much as I do... never considered myself a Moyles fanatic, though I had listened since day one, there were times he annoyed me a bit and wished he would play slightly more music, and didn't mind the odd break with Scott or someone else for a week or two, but Chris and the team were just part of getting up for over 8 years and on the whole it was just what breakfast radio should be.

Gave Grimmy a couple of days and nothing to really hate about him (other than the ****ing Bieber and Wrong Direction obsession that's seemingly taking over the station) but as I expected, it was just another Radio 1 show, certainly not "event radio", I'm outside "target audience" (34) and don't listen for the playlist or to any other shows these days apart from the end of the chart sometimes - and even that's a crap celebrity borefest now, not a proper chart show like the Goodier days etc!

Anyway now taking the opportunity to try out various stations to wake up to, will probably settle on a local commercial station I guess...

Yeah I am actually, among other things... just trying to think of a username and it came to mind!

Always liked Chris's backing of them, it's seemingly always been fashionable to slag them off in some quarters but I'd challenge anyone to see them live and not be impressed.

In fact Chris Moyles and Chris Martin have a few things in common, apart from their first name and first letter of their surname... both are people who are seemingly not "cool" to like but their broad appeal (just go to a Coldplay gig and try to describe a typical fan, there's no such thing!) shows they have something special about them. And the contribution of the rest of their team/band shouldn't be forgotten about either!

I have to admit that to my surprise I haven't really missed it very much. Don't get me wrong, I loved the show and wished it could have gone on for a bit longer at least, but now that it's finished up the decision to stop when they did seems to have been a sensible one.

And there's one thing I'm really loving about the fact that it's over; that I'm not being held hostage to R1's awful playlist any more, as I was when listening live to Chris and the team. The relief of knowing that whilst listening to R2 in the mornings never again are my poor ears going to be ambushed by the likes of Skrillex or Nicki Minge making a mockery of the term 'music' feels great!

Im going to .... well AM missing, the completely unique or frankly far too rare aspect of a group of DJs speaking normally to each other without the awful Smashie and Nicie voices, just talking as they would down the pub. Sometimes bit risque but TOUGH. Kind of follows what Cordon said.

Ive never understood why more music is a bonus or is a good advertising campaign for Grimshaw. More music just seems to imply a less able DJ frankly. We have MP3 players full of own choice music. Why do we want to hear somebody elses choice or indeed somebody elses contractual obligated choice.

That said, im a bit bothered that from here on im not going to be hearing newly released music anymore.

Going to miss a lot. Probably easier to list what im not going to miss. Never liked the Cheesy Song even though I rarely heard it. McFlys stargirl ( guess I dont like repetition) and perhaps Chris's predictable crowbarring in of innuendo which I found very desperate and straining most times. Cant think of anything else. Not bad for 8 years.

I'll miss Rob DJ's Pub Quiz and the Golden Hour (even though the FB page has that partly sorted). I will miss having guesses with the team at what the year is, and I will definitely miss going along with the team for the "when I say Pub, you say Quiz" bit. Good times. I will also miss the long links full of friendly banter, because that's obviously what set them apart from everyone else and made for very good listening.

[OT]Portuguese (or Madeiran) radio has become dreary to the point that all the talking you hear is about recession, politics, public opinion with 90% of the callers labelling said politics as thieves and scumbags...and only entertainment is a 5-minute comedy sketch that goes on the air twice a day...* that! Radio DJ's here could learn a lot from Chris Moyles & Company.[/OT]

What I will NOT miss: The playlist shite that would get worse by the day and said shite's authors who appeared on the show.

As I no longer listen to Radio 1, AT ALL, one thing I am missing is newsbeat. Local radio stations don't seem to do news as good as the BBC. I am missing Dom and Carrie/Tina reading quality news reports in the morning. This is a weird thing to miss in my opinion!

You can still have the Tina reading quality news report in the morning.

I'm missing the same as others said. Just the general chatting and laughter that makes you believe you are among friends. Today when I heard that the Gangnam style song was number 1 in the UK I thought about what Chris and Dave would have said about it while doing the chart countdown, if they like it or not? If Aled likes the song? If they would make fun about it?

Good God, I feel like after a (unwanted) break up!

I wasn't really a regular listener in the last couple of years, so I don't really miss it as keenly as I would if it had finished five years ago when I listened every day. Even if I do fancy hearing a bit of Chris, Dave, Dom, Aled and the rest, then there's (I'm guessing) about 7,000 hours worth in the archive on here, so I'm not worried.

I suppose this is as good a thread as any to add Carrie's baby news to. As tweeted by Aled earlier,

Aled Haydn Jones ‏@ahj
CONGRATULATIONS @sportycarrie! She had baby Iris Autumn Ceylon this morning at 0945. Hugs to her and family! xx

Nice news, and good to see that Carrie's keeping up the very 'yummymummy' vibe she gives off with the name.

Colonial fits quite well with Captain Underpants.

What I miss is that the CM show was the only radio show I would ever listen back to on the i-player. Grimmy in fairness is doing exactly what R1 management want in terms of trying to chuck out the oldies in the audience. I'm 24 but now R1 breakfast is just another station I switch between depending on what tune is on.

Still can't say I've found a replacement on the morning drive. Absolute Radio is probably getting a slight majority of my time sofar. Radio 2, Moira Stewart's voice is fantastic, but can't warm to Evans. Irish presenter Ryan Tubridy standing in for Evans this week was a much easier listen.

The only other shows that I make a point of tuning into now is Eoghan McDermot on XFM drivetime, Zane Lowe depending on my mood, and of course Coxy! Still surprised R1 haven't poached McDermott, great talent in my opinion

well i,m not going to miss the cheesey song but i am going to miss the morning banter from chris, dave, aled, dom & tina. i have been listening to chris evens on BBC radio 2 on the way to work & oh my god....that bloke is barking mad. i haven't listened to grimmy (cause i won't forgive what that prat ben cooper has done by pulling the plug on the biggest rating breakfast show & replacing chris with a annoying greb) so.......there.

Couldn't have put it any better myself (well, guess that's why he's a journalist and I'm not...) - sums up exactly my views of the show and even makes the same Coldplay comparison I used!

On the 6 Music references, yes some people say it's great... well, it's great if you're someone probably in your 40s who was into all the cool/obscure stuff from the 70s to early 90s, and probably never listened to Radio 1 before 7pm in case you accidentally heard something that was actually in the charts... you get the sort I mean! We need a broader based and more mainstream "Radio 1.5" somewhere.

yeah.I feel I'm now too old for Radio 1 (but won't abandon it completely as long as Coxy and Scott Mills are on it) but I'm too young to listen to radio 2, while they're playing trailers for David jacobs or Desmond Carrington.I guess I'm going to have to fork out for a DAB radio and give 6 music a go!

I know exactly what you mean.
Though i tune into 6music more than any other station there are times , especially during Laverne or LaMacq, that as a working class lad from the 70s who barely got 2 O levels & was into heavy rock, that I feel as welcome as a used Durex in a wedding cake.

When they do get callers for their features, as i've mentioned before here, they are invariably lecturers, or graphic designers or architects or artists. Even Radcliffe & Maconie make jokes about it nowadays (R&M along with Keaveney & Chris Hawkins -who i've gone off a bit after finding out he's married to the lovely Claire Nasir, the jammy f**ker...er...him that is , not her - are the ones who don't seem to give a toss who you are).
Also mentioned before was the time a few months ago when during Steve LaMacq's show a fella rang in & when asked what he did for a living he said he was a painter. LaMacq asked him where he had been exhibited only to be told that the caller was a painter decorator.
