Take a bulb from another light fitting you don't use quite as much until you get a chance to but a new one.

I won't charge you for this advice.......this time. :D

Apparently I'm allergic to Cordosyl I've accidently discovered, I have two horrible ulcers in my mouth (been a stressful two weeks at work) so started using again for the first time in a while.

I noticed the last few days I had been getting short of breath for no reason at all (considering that I go gym 2-3 times a week and use the treadmill and bike I was a little concerned of the shortness of breath for just climbing a few stairs).

I went into Boots, looked at the.back of the bottle and saw that a side effect could be shortness of breath and if it occured stop using immediately as you may be allergic to it.

Suffice to say today I havr no shortness of breath but rather irritatingly the larger ulcer has been playing up.

Our car blew up on the way home this afternoon. Thankfully it went just around the corner from the house, but we don't need this just at present.

Continuing the theme of clogging up Twitter feeds, @R1Breakfast tweets SO much - and like they're a 14 year old girl.

I can't believe that a national breakfast show's corporate account is being run like that. So likely to make older (above 20) listeners unfollow.

I always refer to Heart as "POOR Music Variety" for that exact reason!

That is the reason why I follow very few people from school, because they tweet song lyrics junk and other meaningless things. Some could say that about what I tweet I suppose though...

Blew up. The turbo went bang and enveloped us and everyone for several hundred yards around in clouds of dense smoke. The bloke who came to tow it out of the road said its a good job it was a diesel, if it had been petrol we would have been toast.

Today I have driven a round trip of 360 miles, taking Mr Yudster to Sheffield to pick up his parents' second car which we are borrowing for a while, and then back again, all in a car that was designed for tootling around town and never exceeding 45 miles an hour. Well it bloody did today.

Ouch. Did it overrun when the turbo blew? I've never experienced that but it's one of the "big fears" I have with a turbo car

Yep - sounded like a jumbo jet taking off - for about a minute after the keys were removed from the ignition. Not something you ever want to happen, especially not with your baby in the car. Well, he's 8, but you know what I mean.

Now looking for an economical medium sized family hatchback in good condition, preferably a low tax bracket but fuel economy is the prime consideration. Not too old - 08 plate, something like that.

Oh, sorry to hear that Yuddles. Pleased it all ended up ok. Although, I am disappointed you have been to Sheffield, yet didn't attempt to get in touch for a coffee...

I do hope you get the new motor sorted, advice on repairs to old car or a new purchase can be supplied as and when required.

Chin up, 'tis only metal and plastic, the important stuff survived...

if its gone bang and its just jammed or spat bits into the exhaust, it can be rebuilt or get one off ebay... looking at 3-5 hours labour and the cost of a recon turbo, even if its got the manufactures part numer on it it ws probably made by Garrett

if it has gone bang and shot bits into the inlet.... less likley as its the exhaust side that takes the grief, then the engine will need a rebuild and its probably not financially viable if the car is older than say 5 years. second hand cut out engine from a rear end shunt at the breakers yard, re-programme all keys to the new ECU flog your old one off in bits, its a pain, its often not worth doing unless you want to do it yourself

they go bang for 2 reasons

1) The car has 100-150,000 miles on it, lead a hard life (ex fleet and rental cars) and the turbo thrust bearing wears allowing the turbine to hit the housing
2) The bearing faces in the turbo wear out, possibly due to blocked oil feed, allowing the turbine to hit the housing

the oil feed gets blocked thus...
you run the car reasonably hard and switch it off directly afterwards, in this case the oil in the turbo bearings toasts and goes like burn't on chip fat ,eventually blocking the flow of oil, or if really red hot the main shaft bends(only really when you soup it up and run high boost)

you wear the bearing thus...
spank it away from every stop before the temp guage reaches middle (oil starts working properly)
or
you let it run low on oil which wears the oil out in double quick time, it gets very thick when cold very thin when hot and doesn't lubricate anymore .
you don't have to have done any of this just somone in its past, or you got a turbo made on a friday afternoon :)

if you let them warm up at start up, and relax for 30 seconds before switch off you'll get 200,000 miles out of a modern turbo diesel...1.6 litre ford focus turbo diesels suffer from this proplem...or maybe 1.6 litre ford focus drivers suffer from this problem

not lecturing. just a fact of life and turbo care is one of the things they just don't tell you.

its boring but may i suggest a 2 litre TDI octavia 1000s of taxi drivers can't be wrong. its just an audi A3/A4 with a different body lower service costs and more plastic. 600 miles+ to the tank.

don't get an alfa, lovely cars but they make you cry by 70K miles,

hope it all works out

He ain't wrong, I am religous with my start-up Turbo care (although less so on the cool down side of things).

Nor with the advice on a new motor, but I suspect a Skoda may be beneath our Yuddles.

So broke from spending £200 going to London for the Moyles live show, it's depressing. It was an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I owe money to my mum, to my flatmate, and Christmas is looming. Work is making me so stressed at the moment but I'm clearly gonna have to start taking on overtime if I ever want to catch up with my bills :(
