So broke from spending £200 going to London for the Moyles live show, it's depressing. It was an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I owe money to my mum, to my flatmate, and Christmas is looming. Work is making me so stressed at the moment but I'm clearly gonna have to start taking on overtime if I ever want to catch up with my bills

I have about 5p to my name but on the other hand have no bills to pay.

I still owe my mum £80 from the London trip and my flatmate £120 for bills. Clearing that should leave me just about able to live for the next month, so zero left to buy Christmas presents. Admittedly it could be a lot worse - I could be not making rent - but I do tend to panic about these things.

Thanks Tim and Dave - it is definitely not financially viable to fix, but we knew we needed to get a new car sooner or later - well, turns out its going to be sooner, that's all!

You have to pay back all your student loans though, don't you? I got grants when I was a student, and they wrote my debts off under the old system.

That's the right way to look at a student loan. Its the best finance deal you will ever get, and its for a good reason. Don't stress about it, keep in mind that its the cheapest finance you will ever have, and make the most of the opportunities it is buying you.

I look at it as a loan that they're never gonna repossess anything for as well. Yeah, I'm sure it will be a big hit on my pay packet each month when I start paying it back but it will be worth it.

And that is kinda the point, speculate to accumulate and all that. I regret not going to Uni. As most will know, I don't get paid badly, but even so, if I had that 'bit of paper' that * years at Uni would have supplied, I could instantly add an extra £5k p/a to my salary, which would basically cover my SL payments.

While I'm a supporter of the 'free education for all' campaign, I do understand that this system is as good a compromise as we're gonna get.

Car insurance Been quoted just shy of £500 for renewal. Guess I know how my day off tomorrow is going to be spent.

Price comparison sites don't always get you the best deal unfortunately.

My current insurer (Sky Insurance - http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/ ) beat the nearest online quote by £300! You have to ring them to get a price, but for that sort of saving it's definitely worth it. I also get 20% discount for being in a car club (apparently - not sure how true that is).

Always ring your current insurers first to fight for a better price. But always do a new quote first! I did this and I found out that as a new customer, I would get £300 off! You're more than entitled to the new customer quote as BBC Watchdog did a huge investigation on this. Luckily, my renewal came in just after that said investigation so I could haggle hard to get the same price.
