"Theres just one thing, thats getting in the way,
when we go up to bed, you're just no good, its such a shame.
I look into your eyes, and want to get to know you,
but then you make this noise and its apparent its all over".

Nothing to to with Lily Allen, just wanted to share my thoughts on a night i spent recently with Benji.

You must have been with some other bloke.

No. You mean "you find her unattractive". Isn't that right, Nic?!! x

Vile and ugly are not the same. He didn't even say vile looking! Sometimes it's like I can see the points I try to make whizzing in one of your ears, out the other, and just floating away...

I see them going in, him being irritated and thinking how he can irritate you, then him posting something which you reply to saying that he's irritated you. Everyone is irritated, like a herpes convention.

Another unpleasantly graphic simile :)

I never knew what Dave said to upset Lily Allen SO much that even her dad hates him.
If you think shes bad ,well then her Da takes c**tishness to a whole different level. A truly appalling scrote.

if I may bring us back on topic, I had the misfortune to listen to Nick Grimshaw's show for the first time this morning. If I was a 14 year old girl, I'd have loved it, but I'm a 30 year old man, so I hated it. And that is what Radio 1 want, I suppose.

Listening to the last week of the Chris Moyles Show this week and a thought came to me.

Even though there's less music and more chat, the music that does get played is far more appealing to me than anything I've heard Grimmy play this week (I've had him on when I've been in the shower or driving to work). I'm fairly sure both sets of music have followed the R1 playlist, so is Grimmy picking a different style off the playlist to suit him or has the playlist suddenly changed?

If Grimmy's picking the music off the playlist to suit his style then there's no chance I'll ever really warm to him.

The thing that annoys me most about Grimmy on the Breakfast show is the falseness of his presenting style. I don't know if he thought he needed to speak differently on a morning show to how he'd been speaking on his night-time show, or if he was told to, but either way it's been an epic fail IMO. I think the difference is night and day. It was based on how he sounded on his previous show that I thought he might not be bad on Breakfast - he just needed to keep the same style. What he's done has been pretty poor.

Couldn't agree more, never could understand what all the fuss about her is.

Some of the interviews I've seen/heard I've found quite cringe worthy. Talented ? I don't think so, definitely been given a helping hand with her career from daddy, overrated ? a massive Yes !

I should imagine we'll be hearing a lot more of her on Radio 1 now as she's best mates with Grimmy, Another reason to turn off I suppose !

Another thing that I find unpleasant is people who use forced nicknames about themselves.

For example: Paul "You can call me the Guvnor" Ince.
Nick "You can call me Grimmy" Grimshaw.

It's a sad day! Couldn't put up with 'grimmy' on radio 1 anymore and had to turn over. Currently hunting for a new morning radio station??

The big turn off is still continuing, 2 weeks in.....

You're pretty much justifying the decision to put Grimshaw in and change the format / style / spirit of the show - Matt Prior's 30.

The other unknown is how many kids who'd listen to the myriad of turgid local radio options can now find very nearly the same thing (but without adverts) on Radio 1 and might be tuning in.

There may well be a "big turn off", but there may also be a "big turn on" which is what the BBC wanted.

I really can't see it - I can see fans of the Wanted or 1D tuning in when they are on the show (as they did with Chris) but I doubt they will tune in every day... although maybe that's why they seem to have gone so over-the-top with it.

I would have thought most of the 'reach' towards youth listeners was through their parents tuning in to Radio 1 - it's how I started listening to the show, and the same for the majority of people I know. I've been listening to the Breakfast Show Replay and it struck me that there is no way that a new competition based on owning a car (carpark catchphrase) could start in the current climate as it is aimed above their target audience, despite the fact I would guess most breakfast radio listening is done in the car.

I now listen to silence in the mornings (actually I stick The Hoobs on, Channel 4 @ 6am) thanks to Prick Grimshaw

Ah yes, I spent many happy childhood hours watching The Hoobs. I believe I've still got a VHS tape of it somewhere...

More references to 1D/JB this morning, even though they were interviewing one of the other acts that performed at the teen awards. Seems like R1 have been given an extortionate bung from the record company to plug them at every given opportunity.

The interview was very monotonous. Didn't ask anything outside of the "safe" norm referencing to last nights performance and Grimmy writing 1D over his face with eyeliner. Seriously, who cares? Then mentioned a Skype one-to-one interview with one of the acts' fans. But how on earth is that going to work without being carefully constructed? Grimmy is becoming more of an attention seeking idiot than the media portrayed Moyles as in the early days. I really don't think he realises how he's sounding based on the way R1 is remoulding his style.

Not quite relating to Grimmy, but to do with the whole target audience.

I was listening to a bit of the Teen Awards "afterparty" with Jameela and Aled last night, they were interviewing one of the young girls (think she was 15 or so) who won one of the teen awards. The conversation turned like this:

Aled: Let's say goodbye by playing another live track from Justin Bieber. Are you a fan of Justin Bieber?
Award Winner: No.

... awkward laughter from Aled and Jameela ...

Aled: Shall we do this again? Do you like Justin Bieber?
Award Winner: No!

Superbly cringeworthy radio, nice demographic targeting Radio 1!

Not sure that's really a comparison, "the Guvnor" is a self-promoting "aren't I great" nickname, whereas Grimmy is just a straightforward abbreviation of his surname, which he was/is probably known as before and outside of his radio career.

Since Chris left I've mostly been listening to the Today programme, podcasts and 6Music. Haven't tuned into Radio 1 at all. Then again I didn't really listen to anyone else but Chris (and sometimes Scott) when Chris was on.

I'm kind of in limbo. I think Grimmy's show is crap so far, and don't want to listen to it, but the alternatives are worse - I absolutely can't stand Chris Evans, Radio 4 would bore the hell out of me, and there's nothing on TV at that time which appeals to me.
I guess 6Music is worth a try.
