Well this worked out well, didn't it? Does this thread remind you of some other radio based forum, Wykey?
I may as well stick my oar in & stir things up a bit since every other bugger has.
I'm well, well over the demographic so my opinion is as worthless as as Greek bonds, but personally I couldn't bring myself to listen to any more than a few minutes of
Grimmy
& it helps that I think his presenting of the breakfast show is amateurish & crass. I never listened to his evening show (or any other R1 show other than Chris - which might in someway explain Cooper's & the BBC trust's reasoning) so I don't know how good or not he was on that. But I think he was picked on his haircut & his Nathan Barleyism rather than his virtually non-existent radio background.
My 13 year old daughter still listens at the minute because of her appalling taste in music - yes, I must be a failing parent, though I swear that one day she'll recognise the majesty of the mighty Rush! - but in her own words she thinks Grimshaw is 'very annoying'.
And I have to admit that the main reason I won't listen is out of spite. That does not mean that anyone who does is disloyal.
I realise some people might like him & think he's being forced to work under unreasonable constraints, or even - God help us - like the playlist. Other people may stay tuned because, lets face it, if you haven't got access to DAB or internet radio in the mornings & the vast majority still haven't, then there is no recognisable, stand out alternative in the commercial sector & at least theres no ads on R1 so why bother tuning elsewhere. The vast majority of radio listening is no more than muzak or background noise that you only pay attention too when you hear something you like, so for most the breakfast show is now no different from the rest of the day. Its just a rather childish personal grudge I have that means I won't bother.
It was a testament to Chris' skill & humour that he had one of the very few radio shows that made you sit up & actually listen to in case you missed something good. Grimshaw has people sitting up too, unfortunately it seems it might be to reach out & turn off.
Thats if they can be bothered to anyway.
