Seems he's been given the sentence for his own safety, as locals want to destroy him. The charge was "sending by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive." if its a breakable law, and in the public interest (I believe that clamping down on saying this kind of behaviour is ok is important) then he should be charged.

No sympathy if he thinks that being a massive twat and posting sexual jokes about an abducted 5 year old on a public network is acceptable. Abuse is abuse is abuse. Frankie Boyle is a right twat also, but hasn't crossed the legal line recently.

My friend split up with his girlfriend last night. Saw him this morning and he's really upset. It's so difficult supporting someone through horrible stuff, especially as it makes me re-live my own breakups.

Surely you can put that to one side and help your friend!

You're such a drama queen.

It's the opposite - in trying to empathise in order to be of help, I end up talking about my own experiences. Perhaps you've never come across that situation?

Somebody tells you about their problems and you end up talking about yourself? Wow - I can't imagine you ever doing that Nic!

*snorts* no, quite. He and I both lost babies at some point in the past too so talking about our shared experience has really helped both of us, and the breakups have been similar.

Just been listening to the Justin Lee Collins tapes on the Daily Mirror website. What a horrible prick he is and to actually go to court and deny beggars belief. I was sceptical during the court case as to if he was guilty or not but clearly he was exactly as his ex-girlfriend described.

He can now bugger off to the island of disgraced TV personalities with Barrymore and Angus Deayton.

If we're going banish slebs to Savile Island just for having a coke habit then its going to be more crowded than the viewing window at the BBC creche.

It's all rather bizarre, no fecker knew, or sussed. Even gladder NOTW folded if it couldn't hang sir paedo savile out to dry. It's like waking up from a very bad dream. I've gone back to remove what I put in the oh no thread, I feel dirty. And Moyles's tribute (according to the sound vault) was made on Halloween last year....

The knives are out now for institutions that have changed loads since the 70's, NHS, BBC. Seems odd, it was an entirely different culture. And what with Hillsborough being all over the news too it's a stark reminder of the dark history this country has.

Now Murdoch's hatred of the BBC shall be unconfined:

This.
Now this story has broken: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4589686/Jimmy-Saviles-youngest-victim-A-scout-aged-nine.html
What a vile piece of twisted scum this guy was. It's weird, I never liked him anyway because I always thought he had weird creepy eyes. So, somehow, this doesn't come as much of a surprise to me.
What bugs me is the fact it didn't blow up like this when the f*cker was still alive. I don't just hope he gets posthumously stripped of his knighthood - that should be a given - I hope his entire memory gets trashed and destroyed. (I understand his headstone has been broken up and sent to a landfill already, which is a decent start.)

When it all broke, his family and friends were all denying it and being righteously indignant - that's all stopped now, even they seem to have accepted that this is real and he was a criminal. One of the friends who was defending him actually revealed that he and Savile used the term "crumpet" to describe little girls - and this was said in Savile's defence, the context being "oh well he liked to have the young crumpet around him but he would never have done anything". It clearly didn't occur to this person that the use of the word crumpet in that context was totally wrong.

I was a kid when he was on TV all the time, and I couldn't stand him. I was never in any doubt, even then, that he wasn't someone I ever wanted anything to do with - he was just slimy and horrible. Let's face it, if he hadn't been famous, but was a bloke living in a little house at the end of your street, you'd keep your kids away from him wouldn't you?

And therein lies the reason why this never "broke" when he was alive I think. Its not that people didn't make the allegations then, because they did, but Savile's status was such that he could have things hushed up, covered up, made to go away - and he did. There WERE rumours, there WERE allegations - but in those days, far more than now, TV fame was a powerful tool, and Savile - amongst many many others I bet - used it to enable his crimes.

Goodness knows what will happen if the victims end up being able to successfully sue the BBC and the NHS for their negligence in allowing this to continue, given that both organisations had been asked to make investigations but had not effectively done so. If these claims are allowed, anyone who was in any hospital Savile ever visited, and anyone who was ever in a TV studio at the same time as him, could make a claim. Expensive times.

Clearly on the balance of all the reports (not evidence -- there isn't any), Savile was probably a horrible pedo rapist.

However, he wasn't charged or convicted of anything, and won't be. He's dead.
Which is why it annoys me that there are so many reports saying "He did this, he committed this crime" when none of this has been proven in court.

I'm not saying he didn't commit any crimes, but it has not been proven (yet).

Part of the problem is that there are people coming forward for whatever reason who are faking shit and muddying the waters.

One of them was in the ITV doc. She faked a letter from Surrey Police and Surrey Police have said on record it was faked. It's one reason why charges weren't made against Savile when he was alive. Which is a * shame.

Now we have this former boy scout come along with accusations. We don't know how valid they are, but it is suspicious in that it does not match Savile's pattern of behaviour at all.
A 9 year old boy? Every other case was an adolescent girl.
His case may be genuine, but it may not. Maybe he (and/or others) are looking for a payday from The Beeb.

Either way, I expect there to be compensation claims filed against the Beeb and hopefully there is a verdict in court that will legally write off Savile post-mortem.

Just been screeched at by a customer who thinks that her disability (narcolepsy) makes her more important than all the other paying customers. Just what I need on a Monday morning!
