The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I'm just curious if people would be interested in a dedicated app for the Moyles Rewind?

I know myself that I've had problems with the Podcast app (from apple) using the MoylesRewind RSS feed. I was going to write the app for my own private use, but if others are interested I could publish it to the app store for everyone to use for free.

Let me know what your thoughts on this are.

Hi,

Obviously I can't stop you - but I would much prefer if you didn't. The only reason we've been able to continue with the service was a friendly warning and a rather abrupt removal of the podcast from iTunes (number two in their charts, don't you know). I think if the profile was raised once again someone may get a bit legal and what we do offer, as inconvenient as it is, may need to be pulled.

I'd prefer for people to identify existing third-party applications that you could add the feed to which would simplify the download process for users with difficulties. Of course if you wanted to write a generic podcast-downloading app, that happened to work really well with the feed we offer, that's a different matter entirely.

It doesn't require an app.

You would never get it submitted as it's using BBC content.

And, isn't it just far easier to download a bunch from here and play them off the music app?

Just my thoughts! I don't want the archive to be jeopardised!!!

Fair enough, I'll just make it private app then, it won't even touch the app store.

The problems I'm having is that it doesn't always download fully when I ask it to using the download button in the app. This seems to be a fairly common thing amongst other podcast apps that I've tried, they only seem to buffer about 5 minutes of audio even though a download had been requested. I only noticed this recently while taking the train to work, and dropping out of 3G signal for a good 40 minutes.

It should be noted that if I use iTunes to explicitly sync the podcast it works perfectly, so maybe it's just a buggy app from apple.

I tried using that one a few weeks back, I didn't really get on with it, but I'll give it a second try. Does it do automatic downloads when a new show is available? I'm looking through the settings right now, but a feature like that isn't standing out.

I tried RSSRadio again, while I agree it's better than apples Podcast app, I now remember why I disliked it.

  • You have to download the whole podcast before you can listen to it.]
  • You cannot order the podcasts by date, ie latest ontop.
Therefore I think I'm going to make a generic podcast app which will allow you to listen while it's downloading the entire podcast, and then seamlessly join the downloaded content when the download is complete. And also allow sorting by a variety of methods.

I guess I'm just quite picky about my Podcast apps, but not a picky as I am about my DJs, nothing compares to The Chris Moyles Show, nothing can replace it.

I think it's simply that archive.org is slow and it's a relatively big file. Starting the download early and having a podcast client that can resume a stalled download works fine for me.
