Maybe not gritty, it sounded like the right word to me, but I'm probably wrong.

Cutting edge, a bit darker, reflective of the overall current music scene etc. I've listened to the whole of NicksTape and it's the best hour of music I've heard on the radio in as long as I can remember & it's been quite entertaining. Beats every golden hour I've ever heard in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the Nickstape again today as well. The first half hour (which is usually 00s-dominated) consisted pretty much entirely of tracks that I loved, even at times when I hadn't been enamoured with the R1 playlist overall.

Publicity stunt written all over it to attract the beading eye of the media world. How is RW not relevant to 15 - 29 year olds? He certainly is in the upper tier of that audience. Also, if it's not good enough to make the playlist, why bother releasing a PR about it? Desperate times at R1.

The age thing is getting on my nerves now (if this indeed a factor for it not been played), bloody Radio 1 bosses need to stop been so blinkered with such a limited playlist. I take it this means The Killers, Kings Of Leon and the like are on the danger list, as must Take That considering Robbie's music is traditionally similar to theirs.

I have missed Moyles but certainly not the playlist.

They didn't. As WeekendAtBernies said The Sun would have gone to the BBC and asked for a statement.

I have to say I do see where they're coming from by not putting it on the playlist. I think Michael Buble is amazing - but wouldn't expect him to be on a R1 playlist.

Fair enough - but to respond in such an agreement matter. The latest is Grimshaw telling 5 News that Robbie is "not relevant" and hasnt ever listened to a Robbie record. Total bull. Shows he has no backbone regardless of tough this morning show gig is. Toeing the line sounds more relevant just to keep his job.

He's annoyed Jonathan Ross as well by the looks of it:

The TV star was plagued by celebrity gatecrashers at his annual fancy-dress bash with Bobby Gillespie and Nick Grimshaw among those turning up uninvited to his North London bash.

And the Radio 1 breakfast show host will not be welcome next year...

“Grimmy, I’ve never met him,” says Jonathan. “I haven’t listened to his show because it’s on too early.

"My wife’s never met him either. I don’t think I know anyone who knows him properly.

"He just turned up. He didn’t say hello. Not to me, my wife, the kids, anyone.

"I saw him out of the corner of my eye and thought: ‘Who’s that? I don’t know who that is.’

Apologies for the 3am infestation, really.

Interesting, and nice to see someone actually reporting on the facts and getting them right, instead of mindlessly repeating "oohh, grimmy's so cool, he's playing more music, and it's cool!!! OMG, isn't he cool??!! He knows Harry Styles you know lol!!!"

I haven't listened to Capital, but if they really play twice as much music as Grimshaw, it must be almost one of those automated shuffle-play radio stations.

I always hated the generic female robot voice announcing whose show is on.

Heard 'The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw' 3 times whoops make that 4 times in 15 minutes.

Thrown in towel.

What is all this Robbie being banned nonsense? I've heard that Candy being played a few times on R1 - its a goo cheesy pop record, why would they want to ban it?

It's not banned - it just wasn't put on their playlist and they asked why. BBC replied that there are other more relevant artists to their audience. Media making a storm.

Fair enough that it can still be played if it's not on the playlist (and I just checked - it definitely isn't) - I just found it odd that Grimmy of all people would play it given the recent story. I guess this proves I was taken in by it.

You know I quite like Grimmy's breakfast show. Mainly because he's kept the format so similar to what Chris did, which is a nice compliment really.

I mean the Nickstape is just the Golden Hour, show-bot is exactly the same as Roy Walker, and he's quite happy to slag people off. Plus call or delete is a nice feature.

It's not the same but it's also not just playing 4 dub-step tracks back to back, there is a lot of talking and I rather like it. Sorry!

There's definitely been a reaction to the story by Radio 1. Candy got played on Sunday too, think it was the final song on Sara Cox's show. I can't remember it being played at all before.
