Sara Cox is preparing to move to radio 2 .In an interview with the Daily Star here http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/28 ... rse-of-38/ she says she's had the most amazing time at radio one but 'all good things must come to an end'. It seems that when Fearne returns from maternity leave next september Sara will be off to Radio 2 .She confirmed on aiir today that she will not be returning to the sunday slot when she finishes covering for Fearne. She will be the 3rd DJ to leave the station at the age of 38 following Chris Moyles and Vernon Kays departures. Also Edith Bowman and Scott Mills were both demoted from their prime time slots when t hey hit 38,so it looks like this is the new enforced age of retirement for radio 1 djs!

All Radio 1 DJs have a little crystal embedded in their palm. When they hit 38, the crystal starts to flash. They are then "renewed" on Radio 2*.

* Sometimes. Or sometimes they end up on Magic, Melody or Family Fortunes. Or vaporised.

It's more twisted then that. I set the dining table for two, order a pizza and alternate between the two chairs carrying on a conversation. The doc said it isn't multiple personality disorder, just loneliness

In the Daily Mirror interview it's even more clear that she is preparing for life after Radio 1 as you can see from this excerpt:

'You seem to be coming to the end of your run with Radio One naturally – are you hoping Radio Two will be your new home at some point?

I keep doing more and more flirting with R2. Whenever I'm on R2 I keep sneaking in and it's like flashing your leg...and I'm loving it. I'm covering for Fearne on her maternity leave and I was really chuffed to be asked. It's great for me because I need a new roof on me house. Ha.

I'll probably end my time at R1 soon. I don't want to talk myself out of a job here, but it'll be in a natural end at some point. If I go out on the high of doing Fearne's show for a big chunk of time I'd be happy. I'm pleased to be asked and she's not got some young upstart going after her job. She's got one of her mates doing it. It's a brilliant show, loads of live music and lots of Live Lounges and that's exciting.

Will you have to rein in the crazy imagination for Radio Two?

No. I don't change the way I am for R2. I love it because you're still yourself but maybe it's just a bit like you've got your in-laws at the table. That's what I'm like. It's like you've been joined by your dad-in-law. I'm still 100 per cent me. I love the music on R1 and on R2. There's a good crossover with the music policy. I love them both but they're very different – like my children. R2's the place where I think I'll settle, hopefully.'

She seems to be very confident she wil lland a full time job on radio 2. personally I would be surprised if it was anything more than a weekend show to start with though. It's a shame that Moyles doesn't want to move to radio 2. It's a job for life if you get in!

Do you sing

" I cried a tear, you wiped it dry" to yourself as well.

Oh and sit on your hand till it goes really numb.

Sara will be great on Radio 2 and I think she would be perfectly happy with a weekend show. The only weekday opportunity I can see opening up would be if the truly awful Ken Bruce retired which he surely must do soon - his show is a nasty blot on an otherwise excellent R2 weekday line up. If he DOES go, that show would be perfect for Sara.

If Chris goes to R2 I reckon its far more likely to be a weekend show, because I can't see him wanting to do a full time radio gig any more. No reason for that, its just my response to things and I'm not making any claims to it being Chris's preference. I know he has said that he doesn't want to work weekends, but if he could do a pre-recorded show in the vein of the Jonathan Ross he might go for it?

I would prefer Zoe Ball to Sara Cox. Wouldn't mind either though.

I have never thought that - when I heard or on R2 she was exactly the same as she has always been.

Love Sara to bits. She has one of the best senses of humour I've ever heard on the radio.

Her departure will be another big blow for Radio 1.
