I'm in a crappy mood today. Still feeling poorly and was dead grumpy with my poor boyfriend last night when he hadn't done anything wrong. I felt really bad after he'd left for work this morning!

I'm not happy with Labour winning by-elections. The general public seem to have forgotten who got us in this financial mess in the first place. I used to be a Conservative party member for about 8 years up until they formed a coalition with the Lib Dems so I'm not a huge fan of the hybrid bastard party but its better than Labour. I don't think the by-election results will translate to General election votes though. Going to be another hung parliament I think.

It wasnt the Labour party it was the banks...which no party has ever regulated properly.

The Conservatives dont seem to understand that if people have no money , they wont spend and we wont get out of this mess.

Plus the fact that we are all worse off under this gobvernemt, but the UKs debt is increasing...thats sound economics!

Um, the recession was global... I'm not saying the previous government was blameless, but the excuses of "the previous government got us into this mess" are tired and, frankly, largely untrue. Who put us into a double dip recession? That would be this government, hell-bent on cutting too much too fast.

As for a forgetful public, actually, it's down to the general public 'forgetting' that put a largely conservative government back into power after the godawful Thatcher years.

The Labour Party are fully to blame for the financial crisis in this country. They spent far too much money and didn't save anything for a rainy day. The banks may not have been fully regulated by any party but under Labour they got away with murder. Countless Labour MP's have come out to accept that not enough was done by them to control the banks.
You now have a party who are criticised by the general public and namby pamby liberal Topher for trying to save money and rescue the situation. Cuts have to be made I'm afraid. To be honest the cuts aren't harsh enough.

When/if Labour get back in next time what do you suppose they will be doing? Exactly the same thing! But instead if being up front about it they will lie and scam like they always have done.

To be honest, the cuts are to harsh and too quick.

I perfectly happy with the cuts to people who have been on job seekers for 7 years and never tried to get a job, but the cuts to the normal family mean that they cant spend and cant get us out of the recession. Its the general publics spending that gets a country out of recession, not the government...they just help facilitate it.

The labour party could have done more, as could John Major and Maggie...none did, it just collapsed on the labour party as the banks did go even wilder...but as Topher said...it was a global recession. It hit the fan for the majority of the western world and atleast the last government spent reserves stopping it from being worse

You say 'liberal' like it's a bad thing. Even by definition it's good.

I accept there had to be cuts and that the Labour party should have saved more when the times were good - the cuts we've had are too much, too deep and ideological for the Tory party. Also, the Tories are not trying to rescue any situation other than their own - that's the nature of being a Tory. They're a party full of millionaires, out to help millionaires and * the poor. All this "we're all in it together" bollocks from Gideon is crap - he's a multi-multi-millionaire and MOST Tories are odious * out for their own gain.

Because he is. His approach to many of the things discussed on this forum is namby pamby. Just my personal opinion.
I'm not sure how he can see what I post as I blocked him to stop any kind of arguing.

Ah well - I'm not fussed, but someone not on Deadly's block list ought to tell him that the Tory party will only ever and have only ever helped the rich. Unless he's a millionaire, he's not only wasting his vote, he's doing himself a disservice.

It seems strange to me that someone who clearly loves to argue as much as Deadly does should block someone and say its to avoid arguments. Had he said it was to avoid being challenged, that I could believe - but its a different thing.

I accept some cuts have been misplaced and I certainly don't agree with everything they have done. That's why I withdrew my funding and stopped going to meetings. The millionaires thing is a popular and widely used attack and its partly unfair. Yes the Conservatives have Millionaire supporters but so does every major party. They have a few Millionaire MP's but so do Labour. Should the Conservatives actively gone after the rich to raise more funds? Sure they should but look at what Labour did for 12 years. Handing out cash left, right and centre to anyone who asks for it. Their policy on benefits was a disaster, they lost control so yeah you can say the Conservatives do a lot to protect the rich but the Labour Party made it very easy for certain members of the UK population to scam and scrounge money.
