Miles better than the god awful golden hour!

Getting a R1 DJ in to do their own 20 minute set is really good, and having it all mixed together sounds a lot more cohesive. I don't go out of my way to listen to Grimmy any other day of the week, but frequently get NicksTape on iplayer.

Latina, DTJ says noone else here enjoys the feature apart from me! Why are you listening?!

Excuse me... I was the first to post about it here, on week one of the show! :-P

Although I loved the Golden Hour too, and for one thing am pretty sure the Nicks Tape wouldn't be here without it.

Um, no.
I do quite like it, but I think it's not a patch on the Golden Hour.

I hated the Golden Hour. I thought it was boring, bland and repetitive (something which was echoed by members of the team).

Absotively. "Ooh, it's another mid-90s Britpop band!"

Who on the team echoed, ChristmasTime?

no simply because you can tell he ripped off Chris Moyles, with in my opinion a worse version because the golden hour was great because it was competitive & played some great forgotten songs from years gone by.

also i know this could be rich considering the public perception of chris moyles but anyone else think that nick grimshaw has got really * quickly as firstly he said that robbie williams song candy wasnt going to be playing because he isnt popular with the youngsters anymore despite going on to get 2 weeks at number 1 & then the whole rihanna thing few weeks ago, which judging by the interview they have put on the R1 website he must sucked up to her quickly

I listened twice, it sounded like the old "weekend starts here" thing that Rock FM and other terrible commerical radio stations did 20 years ago.

I didn't like them then, and I don't like them now. Pete Tong does a good mix - Steinski did the best mix I've ever heard. The NicksTape is not any good.

As for the golden hour - it was fine to start but became hamstrung by the ridiculous and patronising year limit imposed on it.

It didn't. It played songs that you might have forgotten until the last time you heard Chris do the same year, which was six weeks ago, and play 90% the same tracks from it. And the Nickstape plays old stuff too.

Despite having a stupid name, Nickstape is the best part of Grimshaw's show. Playing an hour of music for the final hour of a Friday show is a standard radio feature. Scott Mills used to do it, Greg James currently does it and you can hear a golden hour every day of the week on local radio.

The Golden Hour Moyles used to put together (or the first half-hour anyway) was generally shite due to the years being too recent and Chris routinely picking commonly heard songs which weren't particularly good and far too similar.

Regarding Grimshaw, I am trying to work out whether he was always this annoying and I just didn't spot it, or he has just turned into irritating prat since getting the breakfast show. I always used to like him and thought he was the right choice to replace Moyles, but he has been awful so far and I have stopped listening to him so now listen to the weather updates, name checks and adverts on Capital instead.

I agree that it's the best bit of Grimmy's show - a shining beacon of decency in a sea of depressing dumbed-down pish it seems.

Zane Lowe doing Friday's one explains it being particularly good IMO.

I'm still missing Moyles but not Radio 1 itself oddly enough, I enjoy 6 Music in the morning TBH, Chris Hawkins & Shaun Keaveny are decent broadcasters who don't shout at the audience, Keaveny has a good wit & plays decent music and Hawkins has a wonderfully eclectic music taste and rather soothing voice for pre 7 radio.

Radio 1 is just so shouty now, it's not an age thing as Moyles, Mark & Lard, etc. shouted but onluy as part of a skit, Gemma Carney just shouts everything, gah!

All the presenters now seem to think everything they say has to be an announcement. They can't just speak naturally, it has to be Presented. I think that's why they sound shouty and Chris, even though he was loud, didn't. Coxy is loud too, but again, she chats to you, she doesn't announce everything - hence it doesn't feel that she is yelling at you.

Radio 1 now can be a bit like listening to Spongebob Squarepants. Everything is screeched in that show too.

I love 6Music too, in fact 6Music and Radio 4 are now the only two BBC Radio stations I listen to anymore.

After a good start, I have to say my interest in this show is rapidly waning. I blame the following:

- Yudster, for drawing my attention to the increasing campness of Nick's voice. I can't ignore it now. He never used to talk like that!

- Constantly hearing the names "Finchy" and "LMC" (or "PMT or whatever her name is", as she was lovingly referred to by Showbot this week) bandied about but with minimal input seemingly allowed from those individuals is extremely grating. Come on, it's obvious how much Nick wants the zoo format - just let it happen!

- The constant promotion of the "Breakfast Clique" music video was already bad enough before Christmas (hell, wasn't it first announced like 6 weeks ago?), and they're still leading up to it. I even saw a trailer for it on telly the other day! Why is it such a big deal and why does it warrant 80% of the non-music air time? Surely making videos for the R1 website is nothing new?

Basically: I like the music, the Nickstape and Showbot, but not much of anything else any more.

These are the bits I like too. But I think I'm pretty much done with listening to Radio on a regular basis (for anything other than background/travel noise). Once Scott Mills is off, there's nothing I'd tune in for.

Except Fighting Talk.

I only listen to Simon Mayo regularly now (the interview with John Lloyd, who is the man behind QI is well worth a listen if you didn't catch it yesterday an hour into the show).

I have to say that I don't agree with this. Yesterday I was listening to podcasts on random shuffle and one from mid-2011 came on that Nick was a guest on (dunno why). His voice didn't sound any different to me than it does now.

This I definitely do agree with :)
