Well, I suppose I do fit into that demographic being from a graduate/professional background, but just not quite in a musical sense, feel my tastes are a bit too mainstream (though certainly not in a current Radio 1 playlist kind of way, more the indie/rock side of mainstream mostly from the last 20 years) - just feel there's too high a proportion of stuff I don't know, though guess it might vary by show if I was to listen more.

On the 6 Music references, yes some people say it's great... well, it's great if you're someone probably in your 40s who was into all the cool/obscure stuff from the 70s to early 90s, and probably never listened to Radio 1 before 7pm in case you accidentally heard something that was actually in the charts... you get the sort I mean! We need a broader based and more mainstream "Radio 1.5" somewhere.

I know exactly what you mean.
Though i tune into 6music more than any other station there are times , especially during Laverne or LaMacq, that as a working class lad from the 70s who barely got 2 O levels & was into heavy rock, that I feel as welcome as a used Durex in a wedding cake.

When they do get callers for their features, as i've mentioned before here, they are invariably lecturers, or graphic designers or architects or artists. Even Radcliffe & Maconie make jokes about it nowadays (R&M along with Keaveney & Chris Hawkins -who i've gone off a bit after finding out he's married to the lovely Claire Nasir, the jammy f**ker...er...him that is , not her - are the ones who don't seem to give a toss who you are).
Also mentioned before was the time a few months ago when during Steve LaMacq's show a fella rang in & when asked what he did for a living he said he was a painter. LaMacq asked him where he had been exhibited only to be told that the caller was a painter decorator.

Radcliffe & Maconie are superb, even when one of them is off when the other is solo they're still great. Kind of Mark & Lard with humour but without the silly humour oh and better music

I like Keavney but he's not as good as Moyles IMO, still thankfull he's not Grimshaw much drier humour (from what I've heard so far), better music and finishes each show with a disco sounding version of the Star Wara end theme

Marc "Lard" Riley has a great show for showcasing unsigned or relatively unknown talent, it's odd to hear Lard been rather sensible instead of shouting out stop.......carry on, at first but if you like music from new bands this is your show.

I like Jon Holmes but his show revolves more about topic stuff from the weeks news, Ken Brucemaster is a wonderfully bizarre feature however

Craig Charles' Funk & Soul show is also great, I do like most music genres (barring perhaps modern hip-hop, hard house & nu-metal) although Funk & Soul is one I listen to less, however everytime I tune into Charles' show I seem to listen to the whole thing, he plays some fantastic stuff on there.

6 Mix on after Charles is rather as good as well, kind of chill out music, good to wind down to on a Saturday

Lauren Lavern I can give or take, some days I like her show, others I'm not in the mood.

Nemone's good certainly better than Gemma Carney.

Lamacaq is also good as well, although I don't often catch his show

All in all I have found my replacement for Radio 1 however I can understand why 6 Music's ecclectic music mix can put some.people off.

When I was younger (I say that as a 29 year old ) I only ever liked mainstream music (regardless of genre), however since tuning into 6 Music in 2006 I've grown to love their vast music playlist and enjoy discovering new songs and bands.

However as I said above I can understand why some don't like their playlist due to it's vastness.

Yeah, I suppose listening to radio I like to hear mostly things I know, that's why I could never get into any of the evening "specialist" Radio 1. Kind of like going to a gig when a band does a whole string of new tracks in the middle and half the crowd heads to the bar...

I really will miss the cheesy song every morning at 6:30 it always woke me up and made me feel happy. I will miss all the chat and the fact that they talked loads. The team where all brilliant and funny, All the early morning banter and some of the rants Chris used to do on air were quite entertaining. Everything about the show was brilliant and will be missed very much.

Richard Curtis was being interviewed on 5live earlier and when he mentioned that it's Comic Relief again next year my instant thought was 'thank f*ck I won't have to listen to Chris constantly plugging the text number and ruining the show for an entire week'. I fully agree with Deadly on this one. The marathon show was an absolutely tremendous feat and if they hadn't mentioned the text number every 5 minutes they wouldn't have raised as much.

The marathon show was magnificent. The John Bishop stuff earlier this year however was some of the worst radio Moyles had ever produced on Radio 1. Yes, it raised money so had obvious merit, but it was terrible to listen to.
