The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues
#489134
Radio is a big part of my day, it always has, I either work in peoples houses or travel in-between jobs

from growing up in liverpool and not knowing any better than local stations i was introduced to radio one properly about a year after chris started his breakfast show

it made me hate listing to local radio stations going on about "how busy scottyyy road was laaaa" and how cheesy "the top 10 from way back when" was. it actually made me stay tuned to radio one, love the other djs (and the format they was in) and keep tuned!

ok chris could get annoying, constantly over play jingles, or try too hard with certain things.

but at least every morning i could get up and listen to something that was going to make me laugh, and most the time it was was unprepared (thanks to the rest of the team) - IT HAD BANTER

everyone had a place, even when aled didn't get things, this was all part of it, it was all NATURAL !!!!

what the bbc dont realise is, if the figures are dropping its probably not because of the show, its because people have new ways to listen to what they want - when they want

going for a "younger audience" has shafted the bbc radio, everyone i speak to now doesn't listen to radio one, or at least cant stand nick, if i want to hear just music i listen to kiss, i love how they have competitions but instead of dragging them out, its simply, "who wants this, ring up, sound you've won"

ok there may of been more going on behind the scenes, but even putting scots show on instead "AT LEAST THERE IS BANTER"

________

RANTS!!!

ok, i dont know if its been brought up before, but WHAT IS IT WITH NICKS VOICE!?!?!?!?

evvevverrryyy ooththherr woorrddd isss drraggggeddd ouuttt,

followed by

hiiiii "insert shit has been celeb"

at least with chris, you could tell what ever guests come on, they actually knew him, ok it may seem dated to the younger crowd, but one of my favourite moments was when dave grohl just turned up out the blue to play what ever people asked, as much as nicks up one directions arse, i bet they still wouldn't do that, nor would they have the talent

and also

WHAT IS IT WITH THAT STUPID * BOT THING

christ i dont even know what to say but everyone knows its * shite and annoys the * out of me, its certainly no roy walker

everything about nicks show makes me cringe, its trying to make it cool to be camp (and i have nothing against gays etc)

the same goes for that matt edimson twat who thinks its funny to talk to himself, how he got anywhere amazes me

____

i remember having slight doubts with fern, and greg, but they have all shown they have what it needs, it always feels natural, even when they changed annie round to pete (im a massive dance fan) i had doubts, but no it works

but can you see nick doing the longest ever show? climbing a mountain? even mentioning his wages on air???? i think if you turn the page of the mayen calender - thats what it shows

_______

i didn't know where else to rant, but after radio one doing so well, to going soooo bad, where else can i put this

at the end of the day

IM ALL FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES BUT NOT EVERYONE IS CAMP!!!!!!!!!!

i just hope someone who can make a difference reads this, im not even asking for chris to come back or licking his arse in anyway, i just respected what he did all im asking for is someone who isn't trying to be something their not!

rant over

alex

(feel better now)

Alrighty then, to address just a few of your points:

Just not true. Chris Rock? P Diddy? Halle Berry? And there are many others who came on Chris' show knowing nothing about it. You're deluding yourself here. And has-been celebs? You mean like Carly Rae Jepsen, One Direction, Justin Bieber? You may not like them or have any interest in hearing them interviewed, but I hardly think they qualify as 'has-beens'.

Everyone knows it's shite? Have you actually polled everyone? No, you haven't. Don't make such sweeping statements when you have no evidence to back them up other than your own personal opinion. Also, Showbot is clearly the same basic gag as Roy Walker. It may be lacking originality, but you can't say one is great and one shite when they are fundamentally the same concept.

Was Chris trying to make it cool to be from Leeds? No. That's just who he is. Nick may be camp but that doesn't mean he's on a personal crusade to make everyone else like him.

Alex^ wrote:i just hope someone who can make a difference reads this

They won't. Sorry.

Alex^ wrote:all im asking for is someone who isn't trying to be something their not!

Didn't you say he was camp? Now you're saying he's just trying to be camp but isn't really? I'm confused. Also, it's 'they're', not 'their'.

im glad you've replied, i've put this post upsomewhere else and im happy to read others views and opinions

the celeb comment your right, but its almost as if nick addresses every guest in the same manor,

yer the showbot thing is the same format as roy, but at least with roy it seemed original, it made roy a legend, i'd rather nick of got justin bieber to make comments instead of some stupid windows xp control panel tool

as for the other comments, it just feels like nick is putting it on a bit, i didn't mind him on his other show, it just feels like hes trying too hard now, doesn't seem right

plus

THERES NO BANTER!!!!

I hate the word "banter". Its over used and has such a coy, fashiony meaning - I have the same reaction to the word "pamper".

As far as I can tell (and I can't say I followed this terribly well) I agree with the bit about Grimmy's voice and manner. He certainly never used to talk like that, and he never used to be so camp and mincy, which makes me believe he is doing it for effect. And its silly.

I think one of the OP's main points was that he misses the zoo format (aka "banter" - agreed that's an unpleasant word), and to be fair I do too. But if you find Nick's voice intrinsically annoying then all the zoo format in the world wouldn't make it any better.

Oh but the Banter between Chris Evans and Moyra Stewart is entertaining, add in the Sally Traffic hilarious jibber jabbering, Ken Bruce voicing the War Of the Worlds opening track, plus the fact Coxy is standing in next week and I am proud, nah * proud to say that Radio Two is the new Radio One.............

I can't see this as an issue, as a child you watch Cbeebies, then CBBC, then the Disney channel, then MTV, then you get to like normal TV, or what ever.

You wouldn't watch Disney Channel as an adult, except to perv over Gomez.....*Goes and get's tissues ala Evans and Bay Watch.

Other than having a shit breakfast show I don't see Radio 1 as being any better or any worse than it was five years ago. Yes there is an increased drive towards a lower audience age, but it is only particularly noticeable on breakfast. For that reason it is the only Radio 1 show that I actively make a point of avoiding.

I don't listen to as much Radio 1 as I used to, but that is only because I love listening to old Moyles shows when he was at his best so much.

Regarding Grimshaw, I thought he was a sound appointment, but I was wrong. The last time I heard that show was about six weeks ago and it was awful. He has changed from the presenter that I found so entertaining at 10pm and who covered for other daytime presenters. He has just added too much affectation and simply isn't suited to that timeslot. And the direction Radio 1 has taken the show makes it unlistenable to me too.

Other than that show, they haven't driven this out-of-demographic listener away yet.

It's on a par with "passion" (in a sporting sense) as words that actually frustrate me when I hear them being used. The problem is, it's ubiquity diminishes it's meaning.

And I agree regarding Grimshaw's increased camp quotient - he's definitely changed in a short period of time.

Without wanting to associate campness with gayness, but maybe he's just more gay than he used to be. Maybe people who 'discover' their sexuality after a period of confusion or struggle take time to discover who they are - I hope that's not condescending.

I think 'awesome', 'epic' and 'special' are also suffering from this. Oh and 'legend'.

Firstly, the subject of the topic - never apologise unless you're actually sorry. And if you're sorry, then don't repeat what it is you're sorry for, otherwise people will think you're not really sorry.

I guess you never heard Billy Butler and Tony Snell 20 years ago, they were doing Chris's show probably before he'd started at radio top shop. City's just a look into the future at how Radio 1 seems to be going.

I find it hard to disagree. Words used be people who don't understand what they mean or the context in which they should be used...

The other one is "journey", in the context of pretty much anything except travelling from one geographical place to another.
