Hardly! Your idea of '* loads' is clearly different to mine. I'd accept 'moderatly well', but * loads? No. * loads is at least 6 figures, to my mind.

but, point taken. Grumpy.

Alright, point taken. I'm sorry if I've become a bore. I'm just happy.

Speaking of dodgy things, I had a really horrible realisation over Christmas that the top of my folks' wine decanter thingmy looks like a buttplug.

That is so wierd, I've just used my Butt Plug to replace the broken top of my decanter!

We took our Christmas tree down today and to the pile of trees at the nearest fire station where they get chipped/recycled.
It is always sad to take the lights and ornaments off the tree and then take the tree out.

My mates hate me being a grammar nazi, but I just saw a primary school teacher post this on Facebook - "hope all your kiddies have enjoyed there break!"

When teachers can't get it right, what hope is there?

I email teachers at work almost every day and I see stuff like that scarily often. It makes you fear for the future of the country. I even had an email recently from a teacher who misspelled the name of her own school.

Teachers are human, jus' like the rest of us. And highly under paid too, may I add.

I agree that what some call a misspelling could be a mistyping, which is "accident" or "lazy not proof reading"

However Tim, Teachers are paid * megga money.

A Primary Teacher 10 years into it, with no special responsibilities is on nearly £40k for 40 weeks work. That to me is a * load of Dosh, for doing a pretty low stress Job, with "customers" only in from 9 till three and at least 1/2 a day of a week to "plan * lessons!"

Although I suppose considering you ain't getting no more child benefit, I suppose it is paltry in comparison...

(Just so you know, I do realise this is the 2nd mention of your salary in as many weeks, it is only co-incidence, and I have no issue with what ever you earn, fair play I say, self employment can be scarry!)

I'm sure my brother and sister in law, who are secondary teachers, don't earn anything like that...

£40k as a wage for working in a specialised role for 10 years that requires a degree (and in most cases a post grad degree) isn't uncommon (if anything it's less than most other industries).

Well Nic, I can say with possitivity that they do, as it's a National Pay scale, and I was in a previous life Finance governor for a school.

I think the last time I saw it a Primary School Teacher at the top of the Band for a Teacher only was £38,545, or some thing.

I also agree with Chrys ( getting a habbit!) that it's not really allot in this day and age, BUT it is more than is available in my opinion for someone in a hands on role in the Private Sector. Though there again, a good Teacher is awesome, and can make so much difference, and is worth every penny, but no more!

Well, I've obviously been thinking they have a lot less money than they actually do! Not that it matters to me really, but there ya go.

The average gross salary of all full-time qualified teachers is published for many schools by the DfE as part of their performance data. Take a look at the raw data from here for the school where your relations work: http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/

For my closest local primary school it's £32675.

(guess who has a little boy starting school next September and has been researching stuff)

There's nothing non-human about being able to spell and use language correctly and it is absolutely worthy of comment when people charged with the responsibility of teaching those things to our children seem to be without the basic literacy skills themselves. How can you possibly think it is ok?

My Dad was a teacher for the last 15 years of his career until he retired. He has hideous spelling.

While I'm not defending it, it didn't really have much relevance to the subject he taught - and didn't seem to stop him progressing within his role. If they aren't teaching the kids English, and they are of an age to already have learned to spell, it's of much less importance.

True - but you don't want that in a primary school teacher, where the main focus of the curriculum is a combination of numeracy and literacy.

Interesting fact: I nearly went in to Primary School teaching back in 2004. I instead chose to live in Australia for 2 years working for a farm as a long distance lorry driver for the first year and then having sex with different women almost on a daily basis for the second year. While it was fun at the time I regret not going into Primary teaching very much and I'd like to go back now and do the degree but alas I have kids of my own now and won't be able to afford it.
