18st 2lb, 9lb less than last year.

Back on it today, no drinky pooos for a couple of weeks till my holiday, eating mainly gruel (ok a lovely homemade Lamb Stew/Lobby/Hotpot) with a sensational selection of Roasted Veg, including Fennel & Pinenut Roasted Carrot & Butternut Squash, Smoked Paprika and Rock Salt Roasted Sweet Potato and Celeraic, Garlic Infused Roasted Mushroom and Onion, all done with Fry Light.... Yum Nom Nom :-) }

I may start contributing to this again... I achieved my target, got married, when on honeymoon and it promptly went to pot. Need to weigh myself again, I strongly suspect I weigh more than I did when I started. Are you lot doing weighing on a Monday again?

Back in. Hating it already.

May as well join in. Busted meta-tarsal stopped me running about 4 months ago but I'm back now and just in time as I've hit my "arrrgh, I'm 14 stone, do something" point. So, the foot's better and running has started along with an attempt to eat a bit less crap when at work.

Yeah, I just use it as the trigger weight for me to start doing regular exercise and actually watch what I eat.

I even had FRUIT for lunch, FRUIT. A banana is no substitute for a packet of twirl bites .

I wish I liked fruit. I do like vegetables, but they aren't as portable as fruit and more often than not they need cooking so are less convenient for work lunches and stuff. I had a small portion of leftover homemade ham and leek pie for lunch today, eaten with 2 CLA capsules so hopefully I won't absorb all of the fat in the pastry. Even if I do it was only a small piece and I won't be eating much else today so it should be ok.

I weigh myself on a Monday morning, in the toilets at work. A few of us do it - initially as part of a weight-loss competition thing that some of us took part in, but since that ended I still use the scales just to keep track of things. Not having any scales at home stops me from weighing in more often than I should and getting obsessive.

Also, I stopped using My Fitness Pal a few weeks ago after 8 successful months. Basically, I'd achieved my weight goal (by late summer I think), then achieved maintaining it for a long while, and was now at the point where I was pretty familiar with my calorie intake. So I decided to free myself from it as a reward for my efforts (conveniently, as I knew it would be hellishly difficult to keep up with at Christmas). But I'm still weighing myself every week and entering those results, and if I start slipping then I know I can go back to using it fully.

Speaking of Monday weigh-ins, today's was my first since mid December. Miraculously I only gained 2 pounds, but my stomach looks like it was more than that to me! My gym kit is sitting next to me now and I'm hoping my first session of the year will go some way to reverse that (and won't be too crowded - although it is January!).

I plan to work on toning instead of weight-loss this year, and to try and improve my (pathetic) upper body strength. I'm also going to start tracking (very occasionally) my measurements and see if I can improve those at all.

2 hours of badminton tonight, looking forward to it.

Gotta get myself in shape, notably get my legs stronger, for end of March when I go on the first Euro-Track excursion of 2013 - back off to Portugal.

Need to buy a pump for my bike so deflated tyres are no longer an excuse to duck out of a weekend ride... Tsk tsk.

Ooh, I ache today. All good tho. All kitted up for swimming later, yea!

Well done Lottie. Good gal.

Got my girl a Wii balance board for Christmas and when she went through the set up jazz I could see she was mortified when it put her just into the 'at risk of being overweight' category! Obviously, being a good Dad I offered to go through the process myself - and luckily, as I had predicted, when giving me my results it went waaaay higher into the 'how are you still alive, fatty' category - which instantly raised her spirits. Bless her.

But yeah, been good boy cutting out the treaty stuff and doing 3hrs of Badminton and (some) swimming each week. Also (nearly) got round to getting a new bike pump so I can go out for an early morning ride at weekends... My aim is to get back under 13 stone (currently just under 14) by end of March. We'll see.

Although, having said that - I've just munched my way through a Jacket Tatty and BBQ Ribs for luncheon! Naughty, but nice (like Nic).

A few things in life so far, most notably:

Not that exact one (just googled 'bronze swimming certificate'), but I am a fully qualified life guard/life saver. :)

Wish I could swim better than I can. Cat can do a mile without breaking a sweat, I am out of breath by the time I've done two lengths, if that.

We are taking Reuben most weeks now, which is nice, he loves it - don't think it does much for me losing weight, but it is surprising how much even just wading round the pool with a toddler is tiring!

Same here. The problem is that I just don't enjoy swimming - it's great exercise for the arthritic, but I just find it an ordeal every time. I feel really selfconscious about my scars in a swimming costume too, I dunno why. I'm fine when people see them when I'm wearing a dress or shorts.

Hi everyone, I've only just seen this thread, and while I've quickly gone through, I've seen some general commenting, but not a lot of detail...

If you'll permit be to provide some background info, over the last 20 years, I've done a lot of body changing - from bodybuilding, training for sport, training for better health, adjusting to getting older and realising my laziness probably needs to be counteracted before it has a long term adverse effect.

At various points I've probably gained (intentionally) 2 stone at different times gained unintentionally 4-5 stone and then in total lost those unintentional 5 stone. With that background, if you're not managing to achieve what you want, while I'm not an expert on nutrition, I might be able to help look at it in a way that might help.

If you really feel that changing your weight or body composition is important, then I have a few questions, which may (hopefully) provide something to think about...

How are you personally approaching your weight loss? Are you trying to cut "things" out and hoping for the best? Have you included an exercise regime? Are you 'dieting' or are you changing your diet? How do you know what changes to your diet / exercising affects your weight? How much of the science of weightloss do you know, and how do you put that knowledge to use?
#493667
I'm not a fan of 'dieting'. Yes, I agree that watching what you eat is essential to an exersise regiem if you are to lose weight, but its that second part which is the main thing. I'm a firm believer in the fact that if you exersise regularly (as in 5+ times per week) you can (within reason) eat what you want.

Now, topless, I look virtually indistinguishable from Tom Daley* (Yuds can confirm, we've been naked together often enough now), but I still wish I had more time on my hands these days to focus on more energetic stuff to help the onset of 30ism.

And Nic, I kinda agree on the swimming thing, bit boring, but you should try harder in your situation. the waterproof MP3 player I got recently (only a cheap thing) might help you...?

That'll sort the body out, what the plan with the face?!

I know it's a joke, but I can't let it go... perfect is perfect, imperfect is not perfect. You cannot be more perfect than before, you can either be perfect (although you can't but you know what I mean) or not.
