No, 6Music DJs play a mixture of music. They play some playlist tunes, but sprinkle in 'free plays' which the DJ can pick themselves. Makes a lovely change from Radio 1's chart garbage!
Absolutely, that's what I like about the station, they play decent new music & also some ecclectic stuff, Keaveny and Radcliffe & Maconie are exceptionally brilliant on there.
Heard Mary Anne Hobbs on Saturday & like Nemone she has a lovely soothing voice in the morning, Gemma on Radio 1 is like sticking a giant knitting needle in my ears whilst drinking a pint of Domestos
Shaun Keaveney & Radcliffe & Maconie are the best things on 6music.
The downside of the station being its smugness. The trailers are particularly appalling .
I heard Mary Anne Hobbs for the first time yesterday & enjoyed her, but unhappily caught Edith Bowman after & thought I'd tuned into a small BBC local station, which was a great pity as I usually don't mind Edith.
Chris Hawkins isn't bad if you can get over the Quasimodo tongue & the fact that somehow a butt fugly mutant like him can not only pull, but also impregnate the lovely Claire Nasir, there truly is no justice in the world. I really do like his show though it's damn near perfect for its time slot.
Even laying aside Lauren Laverne & Steve Lamaqc - see above for smugness - of the music they play I actually genuinely like about fifty percent of it, which is an astonishingly high hit rate for any music station to a fussy bastard like me.
And when they do hit the bulls eye, like yesterday when Neil Young's 'Like a Hurricane' was played in full, I had to find somewhere in work to sit by myself & listen to one of he best rock songs ever written , in peace. When was the last time, if ever, that you wanted to do that while listening to Radio1 ?
And I still laugh about Keaveney playing Mountain's full glorious 6 minutes of 'Nantucket Sleighride' a few months ago over the vociferous & loud protests of his producer about doing so.
