I'd think it was 2 main reasons:
1. It's still the biggest show on Radio 1, so lots of promoters will want their actors/musicians featured on it.
2. Nick will say yes to any of the high profile guests that he's offered, so that he can get the listening figures up
3. Some of his guests are pre recorded, which Chris rarely (never?) did, unless it was via a "When Dom met..."
4. Grimmy is good at T4 style interviews that focus on the subject's work while interspersing his own personality (which means it's safe for the promotors to put them on the show, but relatively dull), but Chris wasn't very good at drawing blood from a stone in interviewing terms. He only wanted to talk about things which the audience would be interested in (or which he was interested in), which is why Dom/Tina got sent to interview so many high profile people but nothing of the projects they were there to showcase were focused on.
I'd hazard a guess at saying that Aled was offered a lot of high profile guests, and turned them down based on Chris' lack of interest in them, as it would make bad radio (with Chris). Especially given how badly some have gone in the past! Don't forget there were some very high profile guests on the Chris Moyles Show.
